I've known plenty of adults who are frivolous and dumb, but I can understand not wanting to write it. It could be that Violet grows out of being dumb and frivolous (though she has her moments still) and Lorelei begins to fall for her when she sees her growth as a person and admires that.

The women who served the tea were wearing traditional clothing, though we weren't expected to as tourists. IDK, to me the whole thing from the looks of the dishes and decor to the taste of the tea was far, far more Japanese than Chinese. I wouldn't be surprised though, since it was in a formerly Japanese-occupied province.


I think we could make a case for Violet falling in love with Lorelei because she somehow gives her a much-needed sense of purpose. Lorelei doesn't judge her for being frivolous and a little bit dumb, and gently helps her improve these qualities when asked. Or maybe she likes her for providing guidance when she goes a little overboard with her whims like Elesa does. Or simply accepts her for who she is instead of judging her for being frivolous and kind of dumb (that doesn't mean she won't punish her if she steps too far out of line though.)

I went to a super formal tea ceremony in China when I was a teenager. Soooo bitter. The sweet dumplings they served with it were good though.

I attempted a very rough sketch of Jack, by the way. I don't know if it fits for what you had in mind for the character. Photobucket is putting its watermark on stuff now, apparently. :/

So we're doing the early stages of their relationships as adults?

It's up to you. I have more of an idea how to develop Lorelei and Violet than Halie and Zinnia

I think you can make a lot of couples work as long as they get along. Ash and Misty have a long friendship to build on, Skyla provides Elesa with some gentle realism when she needs it, and Tierno is the kind of kind, sensitive person that Hilda was sorely missing growing up.

Oh, and Hilda uses horrible nicknames like "Mr. Perfect" for Tierno in private unironically. But no one must know that.

Lucy uses very traditional formal ones like "dear" and "darling" (and occasionally "dearest" for Daisy) while Elesa tends to use sweet, informal ones like "honey" and "sweetie." Cynthia tends to favor "love," but I have an image of her using melodramatic ones when she's alone with Dawn. That, or purposely embarrassing her with the soppiest ones she can think of. I try to throw some culturally appropriate ones like "kuuipo" in there for Hau, and "mamour" for Serena and Diantha. I don't know how I'll write Lance's terms of endearments if he has any.

I was thinking about the terms of endearment for their partners that my characters use. I actually kind of didn't realize I had very different ones for each character, but they sort of reflect their personalities.
