Level 3: (A member who has been registered over a month and has over 50 posts, or has a special account like "artist" or "writer" sees minimal advertising.
Level 4: (VIP Donators) receive no advertising.

Advice and tutorials - Rak
I guess I'll repost what I made too; I'm planning on adding some when I have time, mostly about photoshop, I guess.
But if you want advice on anything specific, just ask away

GIMP really is a good program. It has most of the tools that photoshop does and for the basic functionality and brushwork that digital painting requires it's great.

Maybe a little update, nowadays Photoshop CS2 is free so you can get photoshop without paying for it, you just don't get the actual CC version.
The software Krita is also freeware and I heard only good things about it. It's focus is especially drawing. Which makes it much more approachable, i think.

I have to respectfully disagree. I've done some fairly impressive artworks with paint, and saved works in jpeg. Granted, you can do more with those other programs, and get longer lasting pics from .PiNG files, but you need to consider and become more familiar with the tools. Two things about .JPeG files, first, you CAN'T move them. when you save them, never move them or yes, you'll get pixelation, in fact the more you edit and move it, the worse it gets. However, the second thing is that there is a quality slide on JPeG saves, and it's standardly set at 90%. If you know it's there, you could save it to 100% and start off with a better initial drawing. The point to people saving their work to JPeG is two fold as well. Those people dont want their artwork downloaded and edited, and/or reposted elsewhere without their consent. The second reason is simply file size. PiNG files might be better quality, but each one is immense compared to a JPeG. You also have .BMP .TIFF .GIF and PDF's Learning to do art in .BMP is key because you learn to hint at details that aren't really there. .BMP's are also, I believe, the smallest art file sizes, and some websites have restrictions on how large you can upload onto their servers. .TIFF's are virtually the same as .PNG's in quality and file size. .GIF's are not necessarily moving pictures. Next to .BMP's they are the next size larger in size, but allow marked greater quality, that doesn't pixelate when moved/edited. PDF's I know next to nothing about. All I know is, if you want to stop people from D/Ling your pictures, editing, and reposting them elsewhere, PDF's are about as close as you can get. Are there ways to hack around it? Sure, but while you can put quality images in a PDF, any hack attempt will garner markedly poor results. As far as the MS Paint program, as with anything, the longer you work on that program, the more polished your skill set will be. I'm also a 3D artist and use Sketchup (which is also free), but many people who turn their nose up at Paint, likewise turn their nose up at SU, preferring Maya, 3D Smax [sic], and Blender. I vote up for the underdog. You can do more with more expensive programs, or simply more complicated programs, but not everyone has a liquid cooled $15,000 graphics computer. Smaller, less complicated programs run much easier on cheaper computers. I'll get off my soap box now.
