Quote:
"One must never forget who they are. Love, compassion, kindness, respect, formality, beauty, education. It has nothing to do with being human or Faunus, 'cause of what good is being one of these and letting go of that which makes us different from the very monsters we hunt every single day? That's what I believe in: the bloodshed of the hunt should never replace one's soul. Otherwise, we're no better than the Grimm."

— Amaris Blödeau.
Amaris Blödeau is a Faunus girl and student at Beacon Academy. She is a Faunus with snake traits, such as yellow eyes with vertical slit pupils, forked tongue, snake-like fangs (although not venomous) and, most notably, usually invisible reptilian scales which reveal themselves whenever Amaris gets angry. Her weapon of choice are two silver colored, curved blades of different sizes. The sword and the dagger are respectively named Crescent and Gibbous, and together are given the name of Silverlight Twins.
She was born of unknown, presumably simple beginnings, as Amaris herself doesn't remember much of her life before being adopted. As a Faunus, she's been continuously shunned and sometimes even beaten by humans. Amaris bears a scar on her right eye which is the result of one of such beatings. When she was seven, she was found by a human couple. They did not hate the Faunus people. Instead, they decided to adopt and raise her as their own daughter, regardless of what other humans would think about it. Due to that, Amaris often refers to herself as a living proof that human and Faunus people can live together. Despite her harsh beginnings, Amaris — whose name means 'child of the moon', name given to her because she was found by her adoptive parents under a full moon, alongside her white hair and pale white skin — has grown as a very optimistic girl. At some point of her life, she came to believe the Grimm, creatures with no soul or heart, to be no more than the physical manifestation of all the negative emotions in the world. As such, she's decided to become a huntress in order to destroy them and to make the world a better place to live.
Throughout most of her adolescence, Amaris was given spankings by her parents, and as such has grown used to this kind of punishment, both delivering and receiving them if she thinks it to be necessary. Although nowadays she's mostly in the delivering end of the spankings, even then Amaris is willing to be punished like that and most times will not hesitate to acknowledge whenever she thinks her actions earn her one.
Appearance
Amaris is a pale skinned young woman with pale yellow eyes and long white hair usually pulled back into a centered ponytail on the back of her head, although sometimes — most notably when getting ready to sleep — she often will loosen it. An old scar runs vertically down her right eye, result of a beating she received during her childhood from a group of Faunus-hating humans. Her eyes have vertical slit pupils. Alongside that, she has a forked tongue and sharp fangs, much like a snake, and whenever she gets angry, usually invisible scale-like patterns become visible on her skin, although having no practical use in combat.
Most of the time, she can be seen wearing very elegant clothes, which, alongside an usually very respectful and well-spoken behavior, is often enough to make people mistake her for a noblewoman of sorts. Amaris usually wears a dark blue tricorne hat with white ornaments and white feathers hanging from it, alongside a dark blue long robe with white details. Her most notable clothing in such cases is usually the crossbody belt she wears to keep one of her swords at her back, while the other, the short one, is kept by her waist. Additionally, Amaris wears no gloves and her boots are white in color, creating a good contrast with the dark blue of the outfit. At her back, under the longsword, she wears a white cape which falls all the way to below her waistline.
Not so often, Amaris can also be seen wearing a black jacket over a white shirt. In such cases, most of her appearance remain the same; she wears tight leather pants and, most notably, a three-jeweled necklace which offers no special effect at all. Each of its jewels are carved so that they seem like crescent, gibbous and full moon.
Amaris's pajamas consist of sleeveless black top, comfortable white pants and a black cap on her head.
Personality
Amaris is very polite and well spoken, a trait which, alongside her fine clothes, often gets people to believe her to be a noblewoman of sorts, despite her family having little money. She believes things such as formality, kindness and beauty to be they key elements which makes humans and Faunus different from the monsters they hunt, and as such, to let go of such things is equal to becoming as soulless as a Grimm. Such a belief is the reason for her to behave like that — even in combat, Amaris' fighting style is elegant and precise, yet never aiming to kill or cause serious damage unless her enemy is a Grimm.
Despite her polite behavior, Amaris is also a very cheerful and caring young woman, a trait more clearly seen when she interacts with close friends of hers. She does not take pride in her fighting abilities and is willing to help anyone to improve their own. Sometimes, specially when the safety of people she holds affection for is at risk, she can also seem a very strict person, not afraid to scold and punish them if it seems fit.
During her childhood and adolescence, she was frequently given spankings by her adoptive parents for several different offenses, most notably her later found determination to become a hunter leading her to get into dangerous situations. Although such punishments were very painful, Amaris now understands both the point of them and how they helped her to grow up. Due to that she's not afraid to use spankings, be it by hand or throughout the use of any implement depending on how serious the transgression is, to punish bad behavior, and will not hesitate to do so if given enough reason.
Powers and Abilities
As a Faunus girl who never knew her true parents, but was instead raised by a human couple who adopted her, Amaris was from the very beginning forced to become stronger in order to survive: by the time she was seven, before adoption, the girl had to live in the streets, which means she was an easy target for whoever wanted to show their disaffection towards the Faunus people by making her a living sample. This alone was enough to get Amaris a high amount of stamina and endurance, able to withstand heavy blows and bearing a high amount of pain tolerance. Her most notable attribute, however, is Amaris's quickness; although not outright fast as Ruby, Amaris does possess amazing reflexes and reaction time, which allows her to keep up with much faster enemies. Additionally, Amaris is very agile and possesses excellent acrobatic skills.
As a Faunus, she also naturally can see in the dark and, something inherited throughout her snake characteristics, in dark places is able to distinguish heat sources throughout an infrared vision of sorts. Amaris is ambidextrous, a pretty rare ability which allows her to use her weapon of choice: the Silverlight Twins. Dual wielding these swords, she's an amazing fighter, able to attack multiple times and parry her enemy in a demon-like flurry of attacks able to take down all but the most skilled enemies.
Her fighting style changes a little bit according to the number of swords she is wielding - mostly Amaris will only wield one of her swords. Regardless of that, hers is described as an elegant fighting style, focusing on parrying, deflecting and dodging her enemies in order to explore openings rather than simply crushing them with an overwhelming power. Amaris fights in a very gracious way, which in some occasions may seem like Weiss and Winter's swordsmanship, but is actually a combination of dozens of different sword techniques. Acrobatic movements and an excellent footwork are the key, with speed and precision being employed in order to create openings in her enemy's guard and unleash devastating counter-attacks. However, that changes whenever the situation is serious enough for her to dual wield. In such circumstances, Amaris becomes much more aggressive; she will still focus on dodging and parrying, but will not focus solely on waiting for an opening. Rather than that, a demonic flurry of extremely fast attacks will chain in a never ending sequence, seeking to destroy one's guard by herself.
Weapon
Her weapon of choice are two silver colored blades which take a curved shape, meant to symbolize the moon. The sword is named Crescent, while the dagger's name is Gibbous. Together, they are given the name of Silverlight Twins. While Amaris often will use them individually, they can also be combined into a dual bladed staff which is given the name Eclipse. Each of these ways give Amaris an entirely new move set, which in turn makes her a very unpredictable enemy, quickly and efficiently alternating attack patterns with no loss of prowess.
Although they are simple, non-technological melee weapons, each has a hidden compartment in them which allows Amaris to store small amounts of Dust. Even though it is not a large quantity, she is pretty capable at using it to distract or catch her enemies off guard to create opportunities, or even use them as direct attacks, depending on the circumstances and the type of Dust stores in them. Amaris usually stores white (wind) and black (gravity) Dust in each of her weapons, a pretty unusual, but highly efficient combination.
Amaris mostly uses her sword alone to fight, and uses it efficiently to parry or deflect attacks while delivering quick and devastating counter-attacks whenever she sees an opening her enemy's guard. The dagger is mostly used in combat situations she has to handle armored enemies, since it is a much quicker and smaller blade, which makes it easier for her to target vulnerable spots. When wielded together, Amaris is constantly spinning around with them, performing simultaneous parries and attacks while constantly moving around her enemy, making it hard for them to both avoid her attacks and land a hit on her. Finally, when it is combined into the staff form, Amaris mostly uses it as a spear, but also constantly changing attack directions while keeping the track on her enemy. Regardless of which form her weapon takes, Amaris fights in a very precise, elegant way, mixing several different fighting techniques in order to overwhelm any enemy she comes to face.
Semblance
Amaris' Semblance is connected to the Moon to some degree. Although she's able to use it in daytime, its true power only can be achieved under a full moon. It has two modes, a passive one — whenever exposed to moonlight, Amaris is constantly absorbing it. The intensity of that is connected to the lunar cycle. Under a full moon, it gives her a huge boost in her speed, strength and durability, and also a pretty powerful healing factor — enough to heal minor wounds in a matter of seconds, and major ones within half an hour. Direct exposition to moonlight also allows her to recover energy much faster, which in turn sometimes is enough for her Aura to keep regenerating itself constantly. However, this is only possible under a full moon, and she has to be directly exposed to the moonlight in order to absorb it.
Otherwise, her abilities of passively absorbing the moon energy are kept, but to a lesser degree, giving her smaller boosts in physical prowess and a much less powerful healing factor — while still decent enough to keep up with powerful enemies, it is considerably weaker than the full moon version of this ability. Her ability of recovering energy quickly is kept, alongside her self-restoring Aura, though both are only half as effective.
Finally, when there's no moon at all — mostly by daylight —, Amaris's Semblance is much weaker. She does not have access to her Moon-enhanced attributes, and as such cannot use the passive powers of her Semblance at all, regardless of he situation. It's still to be shown what effects lunar phenomena, such as eclipses, do have in her abilities, if any.
There's also an active use of her Semblance. Unlike the passive mode, it does not require her to be directly exposed to the moon in order to use it, although it's much weaker in such circumstances. Amaris' body is capable of generating its own energy, although by doing so she quickly gets tired. By using this power, she can create small shockwaves, heal others from both minor and major injuries, give herself a temporary boost similar to the passive effects of her Semblance, or, most notably, fire energy beams of varying intensities. Amaris often uses it to fire energy blades from her weapon. She can also summon the energy and create solid constructs with it, be it weapons or most objects. If she's exposed to the moonlight, those attacks cost less energy and become significantly more powerful. Under a full moon this power reaches its peak, allowing Amaris to unleash more powerful energy attacks while consuming small amounts of her own energy.
Dust
Amaris frequently prefers to utilize Dust rather than her Semblance in battles, deeming the latter to be highly unreliable due to it being too dependent on the moon. As such, she always keeps small amounts of Dust around just in case, and is able to manipulate the powdered Dust with her Aura to a small degree, such as spreading it around, though she's not able to actually control it, only direct it with a very small influence.
So far, she's shown a preference for using Wind and Gravity Dust. She keeps small amounts of white powdered Dust stored in her sword and smaller amounts of black Dust inside of the dagger. Despite it mostly not being enough to inflict any serious damage to enemies, Amaris uses it in order to distract them. She uses the white Dust to throw wind blades or enhance both the reach and cutting power of her blades, mostly her dagger, making up for its short length. Meanwhile, the black Dust is often used to push or pull targets, catching them by surprise, but Amaris has also used it in order to increase the weight of her weapons in the middle of attacks, which in turn results in a greater impact.
