(Thanks for the timeskip)

Having a bullet through the shoulder was painful, but Cardinal got the best treatment through his connections in the superhero community. He spend some days at home from school, were he could catch up on the latest videogames. Which felt like it had been ages when he could just relax and dinīt have to balance school and hero stuff. Alas, his mum eventually made him return to school, which was fine. She was a bit of a bother, but he loved her all the same, espacially since his father died early on in his life in a stabbing, making him dedicated to become a superhero, which he eventually did with the help of the hero Night Fox, one of those brooding street level hero types. But to his friends at school he was just another blonde sixteen year old teenager. After another boring day at school he spotted Magical Girl flying on her staff. Cardinal, whose real name was Travis, stopped one oft he other school kids. „Did you see that girl? Is she a common sight here?“, he asked. Maybe he should investigate. There seemed to be no info yet in the data the hero community shared. So maybe she got her powers recently? Could also be that she just kept a low profile until now…

A couple of the teens look up and see her. They seemed to be surprise to see her. Since magic users were a rare sight. Some of them shook their heads no, but one nod his head. A young male the same age as Travis. "Oh that's Mischief." he tells her. "Wait do you know her or something?" a teen asked him. "Kinda. I mean I'm not friends with her or anything. I've seen her at parties and raves I go to. She's the life of the party. Some of the spells she cast man are totally wild. She literally turns water into wine or beer or any booze you want really. Though her charge fees are pretty high. Usually she likes to put on a show. It's pretty cool." the boy teen said with a grin on his face.

"I haven't seen her before. Do you think she's good or something to worry about?" A teen girl asked out loud looking a bit worried. "Nah I don't think so. I mean She did summon a small cloud before and had it pour rain on a dude once. What I heard is that a guy was bugging another girl and wouldn't leave her alone so she stepped in." boy teen tells them. "A kid? Going to raves and parties? I don't believe it." another boy teen walks up and had heard them talking. "It's true man. It's part of the culture. I did talk to her once. Apparently where she's from they are suppose to leave home for three years to train their craft and figure what kind of magic user they are." the teen explained.

"I heard of that once. I believe it's from the ages of 13-16. It's not with all magical users though. It depends where they are from" the teen girl said. "If that the case I think she just started. She looks like she at that age of just starting. I hope she's good. Remember that magic user two months ago? A block and a half destroyed and it took some top dog heroes to take them down." the boy teen said.

"What? Her name is literally Mischief? What kind of name is that?", Travis asked further, having himself a big, kinda goofy grin on his face. He was rather amused by this.
He took note of how she was likely far away from home, living by herself and even going to parties. What a weird kid. Then after listening a bit more he said good bye and was on his way. His mum had to do overtime at work, or so she told him on his phone so he had to buy some food on the road. His mum texted him she would give him the money back later.

This meant Travis could go to his favourite burger place. The sixteen year old sat down at a one man table next to the big glass window, overlooking the street. Munching on a cheeseburger he reviewed what he had learned so far, his thoughts drifting of when he heard some costumers discussing the news. People were getting more critical of police violence, and that meant that superheroes were also getting more scrutiny, as they had worked closely with the police in the past. While heroes rarely used lethal force, some were rougher. It was a painful reminder that his own mentor Night Fox recently had killed a villain that had been somewhat of his arch nemesis. Some psychopath with powers who imitated a monster clown from a popular horror franchise. That one time he pushed Night Fox too far and it had been his end. Ever since Cardinal was mostly flying solo alltough they did text each other sometime, trying to console themselves over the tragedy.

He was then in such a depressive mood he hardly noticed when...

The familiar magical girl walks into the same burger joint as Cardinal. She pulls her hood down, revealing not only her face, but her dark navy blue, almost black hair. Which was long and hanging off her left shoulder. She gets in line and places an order for a cheese burger with only onions and ketchup, some fries, a drink and also a salad. Asking it for it to be to go. Once given the total she pulls out a purple velvet pouch with white starts embroidered on it. It looked like something you would find at renaissance fair. She pulls out the cash and hands it over. Given a ticket and told they will call out her number as soon as it was ready.

Not knowing to her, she took a seat in a booth right next to the hero she had met a week ago. She pulls out a smart phone. Which the case had a rabbit sleeping in the crescent moon in the starry night sky. Scrolling on a server that local teens use to talk about things, but for her she was looking for the next party.

Travis had almost finished his burger when suddenly Magical Girl was sitting right next to him. Holy crap, he had been so lost in thought, she had essentially snuck up on him despite his training. He took a long swig from his cola to calm down before speaking. Maybe he could learn more about her if he played it cool.

"Hey, you like your burger without meat, what are you, some kinda vegetarian?", he asked chuckling. Okay, that came off kinda douchy, but he could still apologize if she didnīt take it with humor. Would she recognize him? His costume covered his entire body, so he didnīt use a device to disguise his voice - unlike his mentor. Would this bite him in the ass now?

She heard a voice and looks up from her phone. She had a 'what do you want?' kind of look. She rolled her eyes when he asked her that. "Do you just come up to people and judge people's orders? How do you know that maybe I have some sort of life threatening allergy to something and that's why my burger is different?" she asked. Taking a moment to take in what he said. A mischievous grin appeared on her face. "Or maybe that's what you want. Tired of beating up local thugs and what to save someone medically, birdie? Are heroes really bored these days?" she asked in a low tone. Just loud enough that he can hear but quiet so that no one else can.

She knew from the voice that he was the hero she met from last week. Honestly she didn't think she would ever see him again, let alone in his everyday look.

Okay, she definately did not appreciate his comment. He didnīt want to be mean, just a burger without meat...what kind of meal was that??

"Yeah, how many people have a life threatening allergy to meat? I know its meat, but at least the animals have a good time before they are....well you know.", he triead to justify himself.

Then she guessed his secret identity all out of sudden. He knew he should have disguised his voice! But those gadgets were expsensive. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.

"Okay! You know who I am! So just lay all cards on the table! I am Cardinal! But who are you? What can we expect of you? Will you help us heroes or...", he ranted. Honestly he had no idea what to do. And he should probably quiet down unless he wanted even more publicity.

"If you were listening. I asked for a cheeseburger with only onions and ketchup. I'm still getting the patty, but didn't anyone tell you its rude to listen in or is that just a normal thing for people like you?" she asked in a cheeky way. By 'people' she meant heroes. Which with him shouting more then just her will know.

"If you worried about me spilling then you have nothing to worry about. Though keep yelling like that and more will know." she tells him. "I got time before my order is ready. That's all the time I am getting you." she said in a more serious tone. "So if you wanna know, then sit down and keep your voice down."

Once he sat down she leans back in the booth. "To start, I go by Mischief. I'm what you call a witch in training. Though most go by sorcerers now a days. Witch just fits me more. I honing and crafting magic on my own for the next three years. It's an old school tradition among magical users. At least where I am from. As for good or bad...I'm neither. I'm living the life I want to live. You people always have to puts us in either good or bad box. So boring." she said and lets out a fake yawn.

He lowered his voice somewhat. "Sorry, misheard you on that. Thought you were really going for a burger without meat. Which would be fine if it was a vegetarian patty I guess. And yeah, sorry, but I couldnīt help but overhear.", Travis explained himself.
"Thanks for not blowing my secret identity. Thats rather important for a superhero.", he added, feeling kinda humbled. How was it a little kid could humiliate him like that? He was getting frustrated.
He listened to her and frowned. "Well, stay out of trouble "Mischief". I know some magical users that donīt take kindly to smartass kids blurring the line between good and evil.", he warned her, getting more serious.

She smirks as he thanks her for not telling anyone who he is. "Of course, Personally I don't think you need my help on that." she said in a cheeky manner. With him raising his voice earlier. As he tells her to stay out of trouble, she rolls her eyes then glares at him. "Look here birdie. I don't tell you how to hero, you don't get to tell me how to live my life." she said and stands up from her booth. "I don't whatever I want. If I want to get a kitty out of a tree, then I will. If I feel like robbing a bank, then I will. Because it's my life. I am not letting anyone tell me otherwise." she said in a rather serious tone. "I've been here for only a few months and I am already sick of you 'heroes' "Holier than thou." spiel. I get that enough back in my realm from other sorcerers."

Just then her number was called and she looks over at the cashier. "Well that's my order. I would say it was nice chatting with you, but then I'll be lying. I'm sure you need to get going. I'm sure there's a granny needed help crossing the street or something." she said in a smug manner. She goes up to the counter, takes the order and leaves the shop. Hoping back onto her staff and flies away.
