At this last sentence from Harley, the Doctor had to turn away, using all the calming techniques he knew to force his anger to a manageable level. He needed to make Harley understand that he couldn't keep running into danger like that, but he had to keep a lid on his anger, otherwise Harley would be afraid of him.

Turning back to Harley, the Doctor demanded:

"When ye saw what your opponents were like, why did ye not retreat? There is nothing wrong with running away if the odds are against ye. It's why I've lived for so long, I started running, and didn't stop. Ye could have been seriously hurt, all because ye allowed your pride to get in the way of clear thinking. As for thinking ye are not in trouble, ye are proving to me that ye are an absolute pudding-brain if ye believe that! Ye are in more trouble than ye have ever been Harley, doing the very thing I keep warning ye about!"

The Doctor took a deep breath, calming himself still further, before he continued in a quieter voice.

"Now, I will give ye a chance to say ye piece, but it will not get ye out of being punished. However, as ye keep reminding me, ye are an adult, who makes their own decisions. I want to hear what made ye make such a one as that!"

Harley looked at the Doctor when he calmed himself and then asked why he didn't retreat when he saw his opponent. "Well I uh...I thought about it Doc...but I just couldn't let myself give up without trying..." he answered honestly and then looked down when he scolded him for almost getting seriously hurt. He winced when it was confirmed he was in trouble and the man squirmed a little on the bed. "But...c'mon Doc..." he pleaded and sighed when the Timelord said he was going to give him a chance to say his piece.

"I just wanted a bit of fun..I thought it was something I'd be able to do.." he answered and shrugged, "I thought I'd be good at it and it would be a good way to pass the time...though If I'd known you'd be this upset...I wouldn't have done it."

"I mean....you don't hate me now...do you?"

The Doctor stared, utterly floored by Harley' s last sentence. He had no idea where the boy might have got that idea, and he really hoped that he himself hadn't indicated such a thing, as he could never even contemplate hating Harley.

"No! no, I could never hate ye. Nothing ye ever do will cause me to hate ye. Remove that idea from those wonderful brains ye should be using. "

Hoping that he had got the message across, the stern father persona snapped around him like a cloak. He folded his arms, his eyes flashing with the anger he allowed himself to show, as he stood over Harley like a statue.

"I have lost count of the number of times I warned ye about doing dangerous things because they looked 'cool'. Time and again ye have only just dodged being seriously hurt or killed because of your persistence in repeating such an action. Ye have pushed me past my limit. This is something I do not want to do, but if it teaches you not to do such a thing again, then I have no choice."

Slowly, and with clear reluctance, the Doctor began unbuckling his belt from around his waist.

Harley felt like at some point he was going to turn the Doctor against him, into hating him and he was worried he'd done that this time. He looked into his blue eyes when he said he could never hate him and nothing he'd ever do could cause him to hate him. "That's a relief..." he answered softly and caught his breath back before losing it again when The Doctor went all 'stern Daddy' on him. He gulped a bit and looked into his hard eyes, trying to figure out what he was planning.

He didn't say anything as he was lectured, he just looked down at his feet but nodded every once in a while to show he was listening, because he was. Then he looked up and his eyes widened when he saw the Timelord unbuckling his belt. He knew what he planned to do with it.

"W-Wait! Dad don't!" he yelped, not noticing his slip up.

Grimly, the Doctor continued with the action he had started, until the belt was dangling from one hand. He had heard the slip-up from Harley, and struggled not to show how much it warmed him, being addressed as 'Dad'. He had unconsciously acted as a father to these two wonderful boys almost from the beginning, and it seemed that they, in turn, acknowledged that they were his sons.

"Harley, I want ye to listen to me very carefully. There is no getting out of this. Ye will stand up, and ye will bend over your bed. Now, this will hurt, there is no getting around that, and it will seem to last for a long while. You will get six strokes from me, one for every time you endangered yourself because of something 'cool'. That will be all, then your punishment will be over."

Harley looked at the belt and then at the Doctor with pleading eyes, "B-b-b-b-but...but that...but ..." he stuttered, unable to get his words out. He whimpered when the Doctor told him that there was no getting out of the punishment and that he was to bend over his bed. He gulped but nodded, standing up and then turning round. He laid with his torso on the bed and buried his face in his arms. Six sounded so painful but it could be worse.

"I'm sorry Doctor...please..." he whimpered, keeping his head down.

The Doctor sighed, doubling the belt in his hand. He made an effort to soften his voice, knowing that Harley needed some reassurance.

"Brave heart, my boy. This has to be done."

Raising the belt, he brought it down with a respectable amount of force upon Harley's backside. He had to be careful, as he wanted Harley to remember this punishment, but didn't want to be too severe.

Harley nodded his head and took a deep breath when The Doctor told him to be brave and that it had to be done, "I-I know Dad..." he said softly, this time he noticed the slip up...but it just felt...natural. The Doctor had been more of a Dad to him in a year than his own Father had been. He clenched his hands into his arms and yelped loudly at the first whack with the belt. "Oww!" he wished he could reach back and rub because it hurt so much.

"A-Ah...I'm sorry!"

The Doctor remained silent at Harley's apology. That had only been the first stroke, he was sure he would hearing more apologies after the next few. The belt descended three more times, the Doctor pausing a short while after each one, so Harley would feel them fully. Now there were only two to go. Only two more strokes and he could stop thrashing his boy.

Harley tried to be brave for the belt, but one of the reasons he did stupid stuff was because he was a coward deep down and he wanted to prove to himself that he could be brave. After all he was travelling with the Doctor and it wouldn't do to be a cowardly companion. The belt came down another three times and Harley started crying into the bed sheets, whimpering and wishing it was over, that he'd never gone to the stupid boxing thing in the first place.

"Owww!!! I'm sorry!!! I'm sorry please!!!"
