Ashley backed off of Sam the rest of the day, being kind of pissed off at the rejection she suffered.

Soda showed up again after lunch wearing different clothes, a jacket this time, but sitting on the same table he had been in the morning. The yard was basically vacant by then so he didn’t think twice about smoking, a habit he picked up when he was twelve and had no plans of quitting.

Not looking at her Soda responded ,“Sorry. About earlier.” unsure about how to put into words his reaction to her talking about using drugs the blond watched the trees ahead of him inhaling the poison of his cigarette. Slowly he exhaled then stubbed the remaining out on the table next to him. “You’re smarter then that.” he started, “getting on drugs, even recreational ones can fuck you up.” he knew the lecture well, his mother was a doctor and made very sure he and his brothers knew all about substance abuse. Of course Soda, being the middle child, broke all the rules, but Sam has so much going for her.

“I’m the stupid one here. If either of us are going to die young with some ridiculous addiction it should be me.” his half smile, half jest, belied the truth of what he was trying to convey, “you, Sam, you’ve got to much ahead of you.”

"Oh... so that's why you went off." she said, now understanding what the whole run-in was about. "It's nothing really, atleast it's not a cigarette or alcohol addiction." she said pointedly.

"Just Marijuana." she started, "and no, I'm not using it as a gateway to other drugs, and no I'm not using it to 'get popular'." she said simply, noting that she would never be popular with everyone regardless of what drugs she did.

Lounging back onto his elbows Soda look Sam’s face over, “ How often do you use? Do you know the dealer?” he asked in quick secession. Not really accusing just looking for information, evidence that she was at least approaching the situation smartly.

"Once a month if even, maybe, just when I get really stressed out, Only used twice now, and yes I know the dealer, Mrs. Hamson." she said giggling, using the name of their English teacher for means of an escape, not a lie, but not entirely true either.

“ if you don’t know the dealer personally you could get laced merchandise, and that is the gateway.” he said seriously before sitting up and then standing. “But if you think you’re safe...” trailing off Soda stared walking back toward the bus stop, “ I just came back to apologize for walking away without explaining why.” though still unsure of Sam’s true safety, Soda didn’t want to go further with this conversation because soon he would have to start explaining how he knew so much about the sale and use of drugs himself.

"Oi, where do you think you're going?" she asked, all but expecting to be lectured or yelled at, or worse when she explained her drug habbits. "It's obvious this annoys you..." she trailed off.
