"I found you in 10 minutes," Ada said. "Rest assured, the cops will find you in less next time. Technically, I should have called them myself, based on the stipulations laid forth by the judge," Ada said, continuing to follow Rafe at a slow speed on the empty road.
"I'm putting myself on the line for you, Rafe. You don't have to like me, but for God's sake, I do care about you, OK? And, since we're finally talking, let me apologize for spanking you earlier. I acted rashly. I shouldn't have done that first thing when you showed up. If you're upset about that, well, you have every right to be."
Ada took a deep breath, almost surprised at what she was saying. But the apology was genuine, and not simply an attempt to get into Rafe's good graces.
