Sometimes Crime Really Does Pay {for Spunny}
Crime doesn't pay.
It was a fairly well known saying but one that Rafe Nathaniel Walker couldn't help but smirk about as he made his way to the local branch of the FBI, being escorted by a police officer though he was at least not wearing handcuffs. At the tender age of nineteen Rafe had taken a dare from some of his friends and had hacked into the database of the Bureau, just to prove that he could do it.
And boy did he do it.
Unfortunately he did end up getting caught but rather than finding himself behind bars Rafe was actually offered a job. It seemed as though some in the Bureau thought that they could use his skills to their advantage. Ironic as far as Rafe was concerned but he found being a consultant for the FBI preferable to landing himself in jail and so he accepted the offer.
Today he was going to be meeting his handler, the agent that was assigned to keep him on a short leash and make sure that he didn't do anything else that he wasn't supposed to do. The man that was going to make sure that his skills were more of an asset than a liability. Which was something that Rafe was amused by but by the same token he was also a bit curious to meet this person if only to find out how easy it was going to be to give them a hard time.
Being possessed of an IQ that was genius level Rafe was already a college graduate with a Master's degree but usually he just came across as an arrogant kid. Not something that the boy actively strived for but something that happened none the less. That arrogance was visible on his face as he strode into the building, his blue eyes looking around as he reached a hand up and brushed back his brown hair, naturally highlighted by blond.
"So where's my new friend?" he mused aloud as he scanned the area.

It wasn't every day that someone was told that they had to babysit a brat who had broken the law to keep him from once more breaking the law. It wasn't exactly the type of duty that people looked forward to either. Nor was it anything that implied a good, happy, and stress free future. No, indeed, it seemed like everything that was related to such a duty tilted more towards the negative side, or neutral at best. Good, though? Not a fucking chance.
That's probably why David A. Devane was in such a bad mood after hearing that such a duty was his.
He scratched his head through his blond hair, sighing as he decided that the best thing to do was just enter this without any expectations. He had argued against this, as hard as he could, in fact, but it had been decided. He was to babysit this lawbreaker, when, in his opinion, such a person should be in prison. But what could he do? His word wasn't law, and he wasn't going to get anywhere if he continued arguing. Other than probably out on the streets.
No, no. This was his duty, he supposed. And he was going to give it, like everything else, his all. Nothing else to be said for it.
So, keeping his temper in check, keeping his displeasure off of his face as best as he could, and keeping alcohol in the fridge to be cooled for later use, he felt he was as prepared as his 35 years of age have taught him. So when Rafe walked in, scanning the room, David had quickly noticed him and quickly made his way around the floor of the office, towards his charge.
"So, you're the new guy, huh? The one that broke the law?" Well, he did. "My name is David and I'm here to ensure you won't do that again. Inside of our offices, anyways."

Rafe was looking around with a keenly interested expression on his face as he entered the room, his feelings on the matter neutral. He hadn't really reconciled this reality with what he had done to land himself in this position yet but the fact of the matter was that being the Bureau's trained dog had to be infinitely better than ending up in a 9x12 cell or something along those lines.
His blue eyes shifted to rest on the first man that seemed to show him any measure of interest and he listened to the rather odd greeting that he was given.
"Yea that would be me," he said, not bothering to deny it since it wasn't as though everyone wasn't already aware of the fact that he was going to be the Bureau's pet convict. He had a slight smirk on his face as he said, "My name's Rafe, by the way, Rafe Walker."
Being told that the man was there to ensure that he didn't do it again only caused the smirk that he had on his face to grow wider. "Well if I wanted to I'm pretty sure that I could get past you easily enough," Rafe said, his tone coming across as arrogant since that was just the personality type that he was but he was careful to keep it as a hypothetical scenario.
Mainly because he didn't want to make this guy suspicious right off the bat.

"I wouldn't recommend trying."David stated quickly and bluntly to the young man, his eyebrows knitting ever so slightly in annoyance and the corner of his mouth turning into a frown. Well, this wasn't exactly turning out any different than he had expected. Still, he wasn't going to judge the kid all too much yet. It was impressive that he had been able to hack into the FBI as quickly as he did, but he didn't want the guy thinking he could do it, and whatever else came to his mind, whenever he wanted.
Of course, if this line was anything to go by, this meant that this was going to be as hellish as David initially thought. Yay him.
"You were lucky to be offered a job and not thrown into a cell when you got caught with this stunt. I would suggest you don't push your luck, young man. Next time you might not be so lucky. And besides, if I catch you trying to do something illegal, I've been given permission to, uh, rectify the situation and dissuade you from trying to do something like that again."
Ah, but that was a secret for later.

Rafe couldn't help but smirk in response to the words that were tossed at him when he said that it would be easy and that the man wouldn't be able to stop him. He didn't really have any plans to do it, at least not yet, but his slightly arrogant nature wouldn't let him leave what he saw as a challenge unanswered.
His blue eyes remained focused on his new supervisor as it were as the man lectured him about just how lucky he was.
"That one at least, I am aware of," the youth said, reaching up and brushing back a strand of his brown hair. "I'm far from an idiot." Oh no, he was as smart as they came but sometimes that was as much a hindrance as it was a positive given the nature of the kid. He liked to prove that he could do things when people told him that he couldn't.
Something that had almost been his downfall.
His attention was captured when David said that he had been given permission to dissuade him from trying something illegal again. The way that was said caused Rafe to blink in confusion, the young man curious about just what the older man meant.
"You said that weird," Rafe pointed out bluntly. "What dissuasion, other than jail, could their possibly be?"

"Just don't get yourself into trouble and you won't have to find out." David said, giving a small gesture of his hand as if to wave away Rafe's question. He couldn't help but feel a slight smirk forming, a small twitching right at the corner of his lips, slightly turning upward. It was a secret, and, to be honest, he was rather proud of him for thinking of it. After all, once he experienced it, the young guy would probably think twice before pulling some stupid stunt like that again. He definitely seemed like he needed to be taken down a peg or two. "I will say, though, that it is a better choice than jail, you're just not going to enjoy it. "
Then the slight smirk was gone, and his face reverted back to his neutral, or maybe slightly annoyed, look that he first greeted Rafe with. He made a small motion with his hand, gesturing Rafe to follow him, giving a commanding "Follow me." as well in case he didn't get it. Then he began to walk back to where the young man would be working. "Due to your, ahem...nature of getting his position, we're going to keep you in a place where you can be very easily observed. Quite frankly, you and I will be sharing an office together, so I can keep an eye on you, got it?"

The smirk that appeared on the man's face in response to his question was impossible to miss.
And it wasn't a look that Rafe particularly liked.
"I'm pretty sure I don't like the way that you're looking at me right now," Rafe felt the need to say, the kid listening as the man went on to tell him that the consequences were better than jail but that he wouldn't like it. "That really doesn't tell me anything," Rafe felt the need to point out. He kept his blue eyes focused on the man as the smirk faded and then he gave him that gruff follow me.
For the briefest of moments Rafe debated refusing but then he changed his mind.
Falling into step behind the man Rafe followed along behind, his gaze shifting around as he took in his surroundings. Upon hearing that he was going to be stuck in a place where he could be 'kept an eye on' Rafe smirked slightly. "Aww, are they afraid their little pet might do something he shouldn't?" he asked in a patronizing tone.

"Yes. After all, you can't expect a brat to learn his lesson without a few slaps on the wrist." He said this in a manner that was equally as patronizing, not even bothering to turn around to look at Rafe as he spoke. "And it's not just here either. As soon as we're off of work, you're living with me to be under constant supervision. All activities, such as meeting up with friends, shopping, or even taking a smoke outside needs my approval. Likewise, anything extra besides your basic necessities will also have to go through me. Failure to comply will earn you a swift and painful punishment."
There was that smirk again. Dammit. He fought to push it back down. He shouldn't be thinking like that, but Christ, the kid just seemed so damn arrogant, it'd be fun to beat that attitude out of him. Or perhaps it was just his old high school memories haunting him.
He wasn't particularly liked in High School.
"Of course, you will be paid for your work here, and I will do my best to respect you. At first I will accompany you. If you prove that you did indeed learn your lesson the first time and refrain from attempting anything illegal, I will lighten up. Prove that you haven't learned your lesson, and I'll come down on you hard. I think that's a rather reasonable agreement for not being sent to jail, don't you?"
Upon this statement they came across a room. It had a window looking out to the city, surrounded by three thick walls and the wall facing the hallway made entirely out of a thick glass. There was a desk with a computer monitor that faced the glass wall, allowing for anyone to peek at whoever would sit there, presumably Rafe, and see what there was doing. Another desk with a computer was up against a wall, though this one had loads of scattered papers and opened files on it. Messy, surprisingly.
"After you, young man."

Rafe didn't really feel as though he could get mad for what his new handler had said to him, or at least not the tone, since he knew that he had antagonized the man. That and it was sort of hard to ruffle his feathers, he was an easy going kid by nature. Although the last words that came out of the man's mouth, about a painful punishment did catch his attention.
"That sounded like a threat," he pointed out, knowing that he was stating the obvious but it just had to be said.
His blue eyes remained focused on the back of the man's head as he listened to the rest of what he was saying and he shook his head slightly. "I don't smoke so that isn't an issue...pretty sure I don't need to be kept on that short of a leash though," Rafe said with a shake of his head. "It isn't like I did anything when I hacked you guys...I could have easily crashed your systems but I didn't."
Which was an important fact that he felt needed to be addressed.
When they reached the office he looked at it and then back at his handler when he spoke again. "Rafe," he said in response to being called young man, not particularly liking that. It sounded patronizing in and of itself, as though he were some misbehaving little kid or something. He did actually walk into the office without putting up a fuss however, his blue eyes surveying the scene once he was inside.
Not that there was too much to take in.
"This yours?" he asked, thumbing a finger toward the mess on the desk that seemed to be the occupied one in the room.

"Hard to stay organized in this type of job." David answered as he walked over to his desk, several loose leaf papers scattered about, several opened folders underneath them with various photos of various websites, each one of them stapled to a small stack of papers describing each website before the incidents, after the incidents, and any damage that had been assessed and whatever was of yet undetermined at the printing of the sheet of paper. Needless to say, it was a disorganized mess, and it the fact that each of the sheets of paper had blue ink in the margins and spaces between lines, presumably David's own notes on the situation, only served to enhance the image.
"This, young man, is the only reason you've been spared a jail sentence." David said, being oblivious or ignoring Rafe's dislike for the title given to him. "As it is, there is a string of hacking going around, each one entering, taking private information out of the systems, and leaving behind one hell of a mess. We thought you might've been the one who was hacking it. When it turns out you weren't, well...we decided we could at least use you to stop the problem."
He looked at Rafe, gesturing to the many sheets of paper on top of it. "Well, what do you say? Wanna take a crack at it?"
