"Meh- ME!?" Orfo flung wildly taking a couple steps back. "I don't know the first thing about fighting, I just wail this thing around!" Orfo said brandishing his frying pan. "And usually people leave!" There was a bit of bashfulness in Orfo's voice however as he warmed up to the idea and even the thought that Orzai thought he was capable of doing this. "I just," Orfo paused looking over at Zaeles, "I don't wanna get spanked again." He pouted letting his ears droop a bit adding to his defeat.

"My understanding is that even mere support for Orazi would not spare us from collective punishment as his supporters if he loses," Tambourin explains to Orfo, "though I suppose you would avoid suffering it from opponents in a middle of a battle in addition?"

[Eurus]

Gretzky smiles sympathetically at Orfo. "Well, you may be in the wrong place if that's your biggest concern... No fighter wants to get spanked -- no matter how much of a masochist you are, you get paid less for losing, after all. But no fighter completely avoids it, either."

[Manicorn]

Zaeles looks at the firbolg speculatively. "What if I promised a healing massage from me in the event you do lose?" he asked. "I feel like you may be a better fighter than you realize." Even if its accidentally, he thinks but doesn't say. "And like the man says, you'll still get paid something even if you don't win.


"As for me." He folds his arms and his whiskers twitch. "I plan to enter the solo tournament, if only to ensure we make enough so we don't spend any more time here than we have to."

[Spunny]

"A solo match? Are you sure about that? I don't need to get spanked again because you decide to be cocky." At this point, Mouse is pretty miffed. He'd normally get spanked only once every one, maybe two, weeks if he was off his game. However, thanks to being grouped with these people, his ass had been warmed plenty of times already in the span of two days. It wasn't a fun time, to put it lightly.

"I think it'd be best if we enter as a group. Orazi and Orfo can be the muscle, Zaeles can be the bait, Tambourin can be the cheerleader, and I can always sneak up behind on the enemy."

Gretzky slides a stack of papers and a pen across the desk, sign-up sheets for both the solo and group tournament. The solo sign-up includes a long list of questions, including "preferred implement to wield", "level of experience (spanker and spankee)", and of course, "stage name". The team sign-up sheet is actually simpler, but it does require a team name.

Behind Mouse, someone snickers. The two orcs look amused by the developing argument, and "whisper" to each other loudly enough to be easily heard.

"They'll just let anybody in for the big tournament, huh?"

"Hey, you've got to have some newbies to fill out the early rounds. Gives the real fighters a chance to warm up their spanking arm!"

[Hiran]

"You guys get it!" Orazi agreed enthusiastically. Perhaps not the most encouraging sign, but it seemed Orazi was siding with his fellow orcs on this matter as he flashed them a grin. "Anyways, winning might be nice, but whatever works. I have a pledge to the guild to enter after all. He looked at both pages.

"So, what're you all doing anyways? Solo matches sound fun to me! We're not exactly trained as a team."

Tambourin turns the sounds where the blatant disrespect comes from: as infuriating as their remarks are, it's annoyingly diffused by getting a good look at them and having his mind filled with thoughts of how much they *do* look like experienced, muscular, strong-handed, massive fighters. His face glows whatever shade of red mixes together annoyance and arousal. Before he dares to consider engaging them himself, however, he turns on his heel to ask Gretsky one more question:

"Excuse me, there was one thing I wished to clarify," Tambourin asks, while he pulls himself up the desk to at least make his head visible, "Could I ask exactly what payments a team would receive depending on their performance, and whether or not some kind of participation fee would subtract from those amounts?"

"Oh, of course."

Gretzky pulls out yet another stack of papers and shuffles through it quickly. "...Most of the gladiators don't want to worry about this stuff, believe it or not. I've had people fight entire rounds before even thinking to ask what the prize is. Normally, non-guilded fighters do have to pay a small fee to participate, but during the tournament that's suspended. The base payout is ten gold for every round you fight in the solo tournament, fifty in the team tournament, win or lose. If you lose, of course, you don't go on to the next round."

"Everyone who makes it to the solo semifinals gets a bonus of fifty gold, or two hundred for the team semifinals. If you make it to the finals, you get another hundred solo, five hundred for teams. And the grand prize is five hundred gold for solos, two thousand for teams."

"Additionally, you're likely to receive gifts from fans. We make it easy for the audience to give a bit of coin to their favorite gladiators, so it pays to work the crowd. Most of the time the winner makes at least as much in gifts as they do from the prize itself, and sometimes even a newbie who loses in the first round walks away with a decent payout."

"He's not kidding!" Orazi crossed his arms as he agreed with Gretzky. "I almost always make more from tips than the prizes. I even beat out the actual winner one time!" He laughed. "'Course, there was some messing around behind the scenes there. But still—"

He glanced over at Orazi You're definitely going to need to loosen up over there pussy-cat, go in there all stiff and you won't get a copper." He looked to Orfo next. "And you need to be louder! Playing all meek probably won't get you much."
