Lex was both genuinely surprised and happy at this thought. The idea of keeping this puppy, even after he left, sounded like a great idea. Well, that was if he actually still liked her after a year. All the same, the idea was something that made him happy... until he thought of home.
Immediate thoughts of what his parents' reactions would be came to his mind. There had only been one time that he brought an animal home, and it was one of the three class pets his third grade teacher owned: a bunny. Lex remembered being excited about being able to keep a pet over the weekend, making sure to feed it, care for it, and keep it safe until Monday morning. His parents thought otherwise.
Upon seeing the pet rabbit in his son's room early Saturday afternoon, Lex's dad became unreasonably angry and demanded their butler get rid of the horrid beast immediately. Lex, having been coming back from his bike ride, overheard this demand and hurried to save the bunny before any harm could come of it. He was able to get in contact with one of his classmates, who gladly took charge of watching the bunny for the rest of the weekend. Lex hated giving the bunny away, even though it wasn't really his pet, and he never dared thought to ask for a pet for fear of his father's anger being directed at him (and this was before his days as a punk kid).
"I can't take her with me..." Lex thought out-loud, gazing down sadly at the pup who seemed to sense Lex's sadness and gazed back up at him curiously.
