Haruka tenses at the shouting downstairs, she didn't understand any of it, except they were fighting about something, and it seemed like it was her fault as they kept mentioning and pointing at her while they fought.

Her focus turns back to the man when he speaks up again. She nods "y-y-ya hic," She rubs her eyes "um, we've um even gone hic all the um way to Okinawa sniff b-befowe."

Vance had nothing to say after that. Shortly after, he patted her on the back, uttered meaningless words of comfort, and descended back down the steps of the house. Vance waved to the family members, but then paused.

"What will happen to Haruka?" Vance asked one of the family members.

Haruka doesn't try to stop him, he was an adult after all. But she did feel a little better, again what was meaningless to him meant a lot to her. She just laid back down on her mommy's bed, though she didn't curl back up into a ball.

The man shakes his head "She'll be put in an orphanage, it's ...what's best for a girl."

Vance tensed at the reply. They were seriously just going to through a child in the orphanage? Even when she had plenty of living well off family members? "There's no way my dad didn't name a guardian for her. Who's decision is this?"

The man tenses looking around, before answering, slightly nervously "I-I don't know what you're talking about, her parents left no such documents. So the head family had to make the decisions in their place."

"They didn't have a will?" Repeated Vance, incredulously. He narrowed his eyes at the man, whose behavior had turned from guiltily sympathetic toward Haruka to much more suspicious. It was clear to Vance that the man was hiding something. If it wasn't the man's behavior, it was Vance's knowledge of his dad's personality.

"Where's the head? I'll talk to him."

The man shakes his head when asked again about a will.

There is the sound of a man walking with a cane behind Vance. it happened to be the head, clearing his throat "UHM, and what business to you have with me foreigner?

Vance turned to face the main head, who acted as though he had never seen Vance in his life despite their many meetings in the past and despite Vance's 50% Japanese ethnicity.

"It's about Haruka," continued Vance. "I'm concerned that no one here is willing to support her. I'm also concerned by the fact my dad's will is apparently missing." He glanced at the man who had informed him of this as he said it. "Do we need to contact my dad's attorney to see if we can find the will?"

And if there was one and this family was lying about it...well, that went unsaid.

The head eyes Vance up and down, another with no understanding of tradition, unfortunately this one isn't as naive as that poison upstairs. Damn you Raymond I will not allow your son to cause the problems you did, I will see the purity of our blood.

He glares at the man behind Vance... who steps out.

He sighs "I believe you've been misinformed, as for that... Haruka, you must understand, she suffers so much here, it would be best for her to have a new start, away from these bad memories."

Vance's eyebrows rose. Was he really trying to say he cared for Haruka? Vance had been at the table just an hour ago when the head had clearly expressed his concerns on bloodline purity like a poorly written xenophobic villain. "That's not up to you. That's up to the will, which is apparently missing. I'll reach out to the attorney's office and look into it myself."
