ideally we prefer the size in pixles to be 1024*768 or less, anything higher generally causes a buffer overflow in the server memory sadly there isnt a better script to do the job and hooks into vbulletin so seemlessly so we are stuck with the issue until the creator fixes the issue (equally anything bigger tends to mess with the widths of the pages so considering the general resolutions ppl use 1024*768 would be a reasonable norm)
as for gallery creation my suggestion would be to ask RobM or Dr weird and they will inform me of the upgrades on your account that are required.
