As the day went on, Kakashi couldn't help but notice the visible tension between the two genins. Both boys seemed to be only too eager to trip each other up during the mission, more than once risking getting caught by the enemy.

The Copy-nin couldn't figure out why these two usually-quiet boys would suddenly become so competitive and aggresive. He figured that both of them were used to be the strongest and smartest of their genin cell and couldn't stand being showed up by any peer.

Kakashi huffed. Whatever the reason, their constant rivalry was starting to get on his nerves.

During the mission Neji didn't Sasuke forget even for a minute that he had been at his mercy during the night and that it was his fault that they've gotten caught the night before. If someone else except Neji might have tried badgering Uchiha Sasuke while performing a B-class mission they would have surely have failed. But Neji was the genius of his clan and his cell for a reason and he lived up to his reputation.

The only thing that was lacking for him to be a reputable Shinobi was the maturity.

"Alright, boys, here should be fine. Yosh! I think we've traveled enough distance today. It seems as though the enemy is not that far away now; and our destination is closing in." He and Kakashi set their bags down along with the two other genin. "Could you boys go gather up some fire wood?" Gai rose a brow at the two; they'd been acting...different today; something was up. Maybe if they were alone together, they could sort out whatever had occured between both of the earlier that day or the night before.

"Sure.." Sasuke replied, not sounding very enthused that he had to drag the Hyuuga along with him. He may have been a year older than the Uchiha, but that guy was driving him to insanity. He was going ot knock some sense into him when they were alone and far enough away. He turned on his heel,and began to head into the woods, calling back to Neji. "Come on."

Kakashi watched the two Genin depart glaring at each other. Whatever that was eating them, it still hadn't been resolved. Gathering wood together would either give them time to reconcile....or make things worse.

Drawing up the tiger sign, the Copy-nin summoned one of his nin-ken.
"Follow those two, and come back to tell me if they start to fight." He instructed the mutt.
The dog nodded intelligently and went after the two young prodigies, quiet as a canine could be.

"Don't boss me around, Uchiha, I'm your superior by age if not by rank." Neji had to jog a little to catch up to the young avenger, but after that he could easily follow his angry stride.

Picking up radom dry twigs as he went along, Neji looked at his peer. Sasuke seemed to be quietly stewing, annoyed, but not really mad. The Hyuuga youth decided that he should bring this conversation up before Sasuke got so angry that he wouldn't reason.

"I'm willing to put this silliness behind us if you admit that last night would have gone very differently if you had been quiet like I initually suggested."

"Yeah, sure.."he mumbled to himself, and also began picking up some twigs. "You were the one to agreed to it; so it's not my fault that you got what was coming to you." he replied rather calmly, taking a deep breath. "And if you were so smart and superior, then you wouldn't have come with me last night, now would you? You might be slighty older than me, but I don't perticularly like it when people talk down to me."

"Hm...rival?" Gai questioned. "Have you noticed our two pupils have been acting slighty odd today? And you did send somebody, or something after the to make sure that trouble did occur, right?" Gai leaned on the side of a nearby tree.

"Hai, Gai, I did as a matter of fact, send someone to make sure they stay out of trouble." Kakashi took out Icha Icha Tactics, which was getting rather dog-eared and worn.

He stared at the direction the students had gone with a slightly worried air. "What do you think's got into them? Both are usually so well-behaved..."

"'I got what was coming to me'? What the hell Uchiha! I did not deserve to be pulled over my sensei's lap to recieve punishment like I was in the Academy! I will admit that maybe I deserved a reprimand, but the humilitation I recieved was your fault!"

No longer checking to see if the little branches he picked up were suitable for a fire, Neji continued with his task angrily.

"If we had defeated those Water shinobi we could have gotten away with a scolding, but we got trapped in their genjutsu instead! You're the one with the Sharingan! You're the one that was supposed to tell me we were in a genjutsu! You messed up and deserved every smack Kakashi-sensei gave you!"

"Hm...I'm not sure, rival." Gai rubbed his chin, and looked in the direction in which the two genin had gone. "Do you think we should follow them...?"

"My fault...? My fault?! You---forget it." he growled at him, continuing to pick up the twigs. "If you're so 'elite', then you should have known that we were in the genjustu the entire time! The blame's on you too, Hyuuga! You're just trying to cover up what mess you made, and push it all on me." he stood, up, narrowing his eyes at him. "Just shut up, and forget about it before I beat you to a bloody freakin pulp." he warned.

Kakashi was not about to waste more energy than necessary. He flipped a page on his little orange book. "You can go after them if you want, Gai, but I know that my nin-ken are very reliable."

He was slightly concerned about the boys, but he had decided that neither was stupid enough to fight the other. How wrong he was.

Neji threw his sticks down in rage. "The Byakuugan cannot tell apart a Kage-nin from a Shinobi! How was I supposed to know it was a genjutsu?" He glared at him the way only a Hyuuga could, which was no small matter.

"Besides, you beat me up? I'd like to see you try. My Byakuugan may not be strong against illusions, but I know from seeing you in the Chuunin exams that you specialize in ninjutsu. Face it, Uchiha, your technique is inferior." He scoffed.

Gai ran a hand through his hair while he laid against a tree, crossing his arms. "Then well wait until we here further information from your pups." Gai let out a small sigh, not tearing his thoughts away from seeing both genin trying to tear each other to shreds.

"I do." he replied, and threw his own stack of sticks to the ground in disgust. "But I also speacilze in taijustu. I'm almost stronger than Rock Lee. So I have the upper hand. Might I remind you that you lost to Naruto? MY team mate?" he corrected. "And let me tell you,that Gaara of the Sand village was no easy walk in the park. So bring it; I'd like to see you try and touch me." he rose a brow at him, and then glared coldly back at him, his dark eyes not wavering from the pure, white orbs that gazed at him.

"Kakashi, there may be some trouble." The grey dog that the Copy-nin had sent after the students appeared in the clearing where the Jounin were standing.

"From the looks of it, thye might hurt each other."
Kakashi resisted the urge to growl in frustration, and thanked the dog before letting it go back in a puff of smoke.

"What's wrong with them, Gai? Why would they be like this?"

"You didn't defeat Gaara, Naruto did that kindly for you." Neji snorted. His arms were crossed to show his contempt, but every muscle in his body was tense, ready to leap if Sasuke did something.

He knew Sasuke was the strongest of his whole generation of Genin, but so was he. He hadn't been bragging, he was confident on his abilities to defeat an unfledged Uchiha.

The Sharingan could copy the Gentle Fist technique, but without the eyes telling him where the chakra nodes were the technique was useless. And he could use Rotation to repel any physical attacks.

Neji began to purposely walk to where the young avenger was standing. If Sasuke didn't budge, he might give the brat a lesson.

"Back off." Sasuke growled at him, reaching into his pocket for a shuriken and kunai. "Yeah, well I weakened him. I did better than you could have ever done." he got in battle ready position, gesturing to him. "Come." he breathed, glaring at him. "Aren't you coming? Or are you too scared to?" he rose a brow at him, still gesturing to him with a small wave of the hand. "

Gai shook his head as both began to run in the direction of their students. "I ahve no idea, rival." Gai breathed. "But we must hurry so that one of them doesn't get hurt." he glanced to Kakashi, who looked like he was trying to hide his anger. How did he know? Because he was hiding his as well.
