Natalie shook her head in amusement as her daughter rushed to the Poke Balls.

"You can get two Poke Balls for that amount," the Poke Mart assistant said in a sweet tone, smiling at the young girl.

Samantha excitedly ran back to get her second Poke Ball and brought it to the counter. "I'll take both, please!" she said politely. "I'm starting my Pokemon Adventure today, so I wanted to get some just in case."

She was very proud of herself, and trying to make a good impression to whomever she could to let them know that she was a good girl and an honest Pokemon Trainer (even though she was so new one could jokingly say the ink was barely dry on her license).

The Poke Mart assistant ran both items through the registrar. "Are you with Ariana?" she asked as she took Samantha's money and handed the Poke Balls to her.

"Yeah, she's with me," Ariana answered for the girl, picking out some Ultra Balls and Potions.

"You're very lucky," the Poke Mart assistant said to Samantha. "You'll have an easy time on your journey."

Samantha smiled. "I know. But she's not gonna do all the hard work for me - she's a tough cookie and is gonna make sure I learn how to do my job properly" she said, proudly heralding her new mentor's prowess as a teacher. "I'm just glad that she and my Mommy are along to keep me company. It'd get pretty lonely out there otherwise."

She happily took the purchase Poke Balls and thanked the store attendant before heading out and waiting by the door for Ariana and her mother to finish any shopping they needed to get done.

Natalie followed her out. "Please don't come out without me," she scolded lightly, but gave her daughter a smile to show she wasn't in trouble.

Samantha tilted her head, slightly confused. "Okay mommy... I didn't mean to worry you, but I have a Pokemon now so I thought it would be okay for me to wait by the door anyway..."

Some of the details of being a big girl and still being mommy's little girl were a bit complicated to her... big girls could be trusted to go outside without running off, but mommy's little girl still was too inexperienced to be on her own. It didn't bother her that much... but she guessed it was a little unfair that she still had to deal with little rules like this.

It never crossed the child's mind that maybe the reason her Mommy was so protective had a lot to do with the conversation they had last night, but that was part of the girls childish naivete that made her Mommy and Ariana want to go with her for her first Pokemon journey.

Natalie bent down and put her hands on Samantha's shoulders.

"You may have a Pokemon now but you have to remember that your Pokemon is still very inexperienced. I don't want to offend you, but I very much doubt that Squirtle could protect you now. And you know, this is a new place to you. We don't know what the people are like here. I need to have you in my eye line all the time. Got it?"

Samantha gave a little pouty look, but knowing that she shouldn't argue said "Okay... I'll stay closer." She didn't feel like it was very fair, but she knew that her Mommy meant well.

She stood and waited with her Mommy until Ariana finished up and awaited marching orders - she would very happily go ahead of the group down the path, but since that would probably make her companions a little uncomfortable, she stood patiently until she was told what to do next.

Ariana came out ten minutes later. "Sorry for making you wait; I got talking with that assistant. We used to go to school together," she hastily explained.

"It's no bother," Natalie remarked. "We understand."

Samantha fidgeted while she waited, antsy to get going. So she was extra happy when Ariana came out and bounced around her happily. "All right, let's go!" she said, grabbing the two older women by the hands and pulling them off towards the northern exit of town and the route to Viridian City.

It was a gorgeous day for a trip, and flocks of Pidgey's flew across the bright blue sky. The little girl had never seen anything quite as beautiful in her life, being from a big city, and she wanted to see more and more of it.
