"Humn food is perfectly acceptable," Ariana said. "But Pokemon food is much more nutritious for them. There's Pokemon food for each type of Pokemon."

Samantha unleashed her Squirtle from it's Poke Ball, and knelt down to pick it up, which it allowed her to do cheerfully. She was surprised how light the little guy was, despite how hard his shell felt to the touched.
"I still have a lot to learn, don't I?" the child noted, not really aiming the question at anyone specific. The little turtle chirped its name over and over, reacting to all of the sights and sounds around it. Samantha giggled at his reactions and proceeded to walk alongside her Mother and friend with him in arms for a while.

Ariana looked all over the tiny Pokemon. "It certainly looks small enough to be a baby, and even if it's not, it definitely has a kid-like personality, which means it's possibly no older than three-years-old."

"I almost feel kinda bad... I'm gonna need him to fight for me, but I don't want him to get too hurt if he's so little" the child said affectionately. Sam knew that the toddling turtle was tougher than he looked; all Pokemon we're pretty resilient to whatever punishment the world could dish out to them. But she cared enough that she also wanted to make sure she raised him healthily and safely.
He might have been a Pokemon, but this was the first time Samantha had ever been responsible for a real life creature, and while she was really excited, she also knew it would be a lot of work. She was his Mommy now, in a lot of ways, and like her own Mommy did to her, Sam needed to give him a lot of care and attention. It was intimidating and exhilarating... thankfully not too challenging (especially since it was something that could legally be taken on at the tender age of 10) but still a new experience for her.

Ariana bent down to look in Samantha's eyes. "Sweetie, Pokemon only fight for you if you want them to. You know, there are alternatives to being in the Pokemon League. Have you ever heard of Pokemon Contests?"
Natalie smiled at this. Before she met her ex-husband, she was going to be a Pokemon Co-ordinator. However, her parents found out and banned her, saying they would disown her. Natalie was only nine at this point, so she had no choice but to listen to her parents.

Samantha nodded. "I know of them. I mean, it might be fun to be in one now and then... But I really want to be in the Pokemon League. I just also want to make sure I take good care of my Pokemon." She turned and looked at the Squirtle in her arms. "What about you? Do you wanna compete in the Pokemon League? Or would you rather do something like Contests?"
The Pokemon looked at Samantha quizzically for a moment before shouting cheerfully and spraying a gentle stream of water against her face, causing her to squeal and giggle with delight.
"I don't know if that was an answer, but my goodness that was cute!" she said, wiping her face off with her sleeve. "I think he's okay with me training for the Pokemon League." she purred, giving the small blue turtle a kiss on the forehead (to which he shouted "Squirtle!" happily).

Both Ariana and Natalie let out a "Awww!" as Squirtle sprayed a stream against Samantha's face.
"He's a little cutie," Natalie cooed, petting Squirtle softly on his head.
"And definitely no older than a kid," Araina concluded.

Samantha giggled. "Well, we're going to do a lot of growing together, aren't we?" she chuckled, nuzzling the little guy with her forehead. "He's a member of the family now... I'm gonna have to be a good mommy to him."
She looked at her mother and smiled. "Do you think I'll be a good mommy, Mommy?" The question was one of those 'I obviously know what she's going to say' lines, but it was fun to get her reactions to things like that. Her mommy was predictable sometimes, but it was still fun to see her expressions.
When she wasn't at risk of getting spanked, anyway. She could live without her mommy's angrier expressions, thanks.

"That's up to you, sweetheart," Natalie answered. "Only you can decide that."
Ariana smiled at the two. "Come on, we should get going if we ever want to get to the Pokemon Centre before the day ends."
The mother and daughter nodded and before long, the three of them were on their way again. They made to the Pokemon Centre in Viridian City just as it was getting dark.

Samantha actually was caught off guard by her mother's response, but there was something about it that made her really feel like her Mommy was treating her like a big girl... She smiled quietly and put Squirtle back in his Poke Ball before heading off with Ariana and her Mother to Viridian City.
The child was very glad to get to the Pokemon Center when they finally arrived, the sun gracefully setting in the background. She was kind of tired from all the walking, but she had enjoyed herself immensely all the same. The city was bigger than Pallet but smaller than Saffron, and the new environment was both familiar and fresh to her.
"I'm glad we're here, I'm getting hungry" Sam commented, rubbing her tummy. She was glad she had a big breakfast before they left Pallet Town, but now she was looking forward to the free food and accommodations Ariana had promised.
