"That's stupid, why would we do that!?" Isabella cried. She knocked Samantha's ice-cream to the floor and then rushed upstairs once she realised how much trouble she'd be in.

Tielle sighed as her surrogate daughter and little sister threw another fit, causing an ice creamy mess on the floor. "Aaaaand we're back to square one... I'm bad at this..." she said rubbing her temple with one hand. "I'm sorry about that... would you like some more ice cream, Samantha?"

The little girl was a little stunned that the other child behaved in such a manner. "Um... no, that's okay, thank you..." She looked over at her mommy for some kind of input. Samantha felt really awkward about the situation, and squirmed a slightly as Tielle went to get some paper towels to clean up the mess.

Natalie put her arms around her daughter, hugging her tightly. She made a note of Tielle's comment, which further reinstated her theory that Tielle couldn't cope.

"Why does she act like that?" Ariana asked. "If you don't mind me asking?"

With some effort, Isabella pushed her dresser up against the door.

The 20 year old took a deep breath, figuring she had to be honest with them. "Our... Mother died last year. She had a rare disease that... well, I guess it's not really appropriate table conversation." She chose to leave the messy details until after Samantha had gone to bed. "Needless to say, Isabella took it hard. Hell, I'm still recovering myself. Our Dad couldn't cope either, and he took the Unova job to run away from his problems and to basically fund us from afar... seeing how I was the only member of the family in Johto, I became her primary caregiver."

She took a big drink of her water glass to clear her throat. "We came here because I felt that getting away from home would be good for her, but I think I miscalculated... She's become a handful since we got here. I love her dearly, I really do, but I'm no parent... Hah... its kinda pathetic really. I can tame giant monsters and majestic creatures, but I can't raise a little girl."

Natalie was silent as she got up, walked over to Tielle and put her arms around the 20-year-old.

The young adult was a little surprised, but she accepted the hug and returned the affection. "Thank you..." she whispered, her eyes starting to water again.

Samantha sat awkwardly... this was definitely adult stuff. "Mommy, can I go see if Isabella is ok?" she asked, looking more to get out of the room than to necessarily see if the little girl was fine. That said, she probably would have a better chance understanding someone closer to her age.

Isabella sat on her bed, knees bunched up to her chest. Tielle would definitely hate her now.

Samantha ran up the stairs two at a time as the adults sat quietly. She saw that only one door was closed, and assumed that it was the room Isabella had run to.

She knocked on the door gently. "Isabella? It's Samantha... can I come in?"

Isabella growled softly under her breath. "You can't come in anyway!" she yelled hotly. "I put my dresser against the door!"

Natalie embraced Tielle motherly. "I understand how you feel. Whilst I've not lost anyone to death, my husband left me. We both agreed it was for the best but I still struggle at times."

Samantha sat down in front of the door. "Okay. Wanna talk anyway? It's a little lonely around the grownups."

Tielle nodded gently. Samantha's mother couldn't have been too much older than her... she must have had Sam as a teen. "Again, thank you... I'll be okay, I promise... but as you may have notice, I have a hard time with Isabella..."

She rubbed her eyes, wiping away the tears and trying to remain strong. "I feel like I spend a lot of time going 'don't do this, don't do that'... I've tried everything. Time outs, revoked privileges, spanking, grounding... all seem to work on occasion, but she's still can be such a terror. I just wanna make my mother proud, you know? She was strict and firm, but still very gentle and loving... That said, I also don't want my little sister to hate me because I punish her too much... and I don't want her to think her naughtiness and attitudes are acceptable by not punishing her enough. It's... hard."
