Natalie took a deep breath, letting her anger out slowly. "She was saying how she wanted to take care of me and I told her that she never has to."

Ariana rubbed Samantha's back. "It's going to be okay, Samantha." She knew that wasn't much comfort to the child but it was the best that she could offer.

"Okay... then what? I mean, that all seems to be a fairly reasonable line of conversation... what made her run off while you were trying to comfort her?" Tielle was worried that something had come up since she and Isabella had been around to cause this.

Samantha started calming down as Ariana was there to help her, but she was still extremely upset with herself and everything that had happened. At least she had found that nice police officer to help her find her Mommy, but she could have been in a lot more trouble than she was now, being off on her own. "I hate myself, I'm such a bad girl!" she sobbed angrily.

"She was upset before we left the house," Natalie explained. "She was worried about being naughty and hurting people."

"You are not a bad girl!" Ariana scolded sternly.

Tielle rubbed the woman's shoulders gently. "Why was she upset about that? Did she say? Was it because of us?" she inquired.

Samantha sat up and looked at Ariana, angry and frustrated. "Then WHY did I run away like that?! Especially after just promising never to do it again yesterday - and the day before that!"

Face was beet red, and she was breathing heavily from all the loud crying she had been doing.

Natalie nodded. "I think so. She was upset she couldn't convince Isabella to behave."

Ariana pulled the girl into a hug. "Come on, Samantha, it's going to be all right."

Tielle tilted her head slightly. "Really? I didn't know she was that worried about Isabella..." She brought the other woman back into a hug. "I guess some of Isabella's crankiness must have rubbed off on her... she seems like she's a sensitive kid. I'm sure she meant well, but she just handled it the wrong way. She's done that before, right?"

Samantha was to tired to argue this time and finally gave in, sobbing into Ariana's shoulder while being held tight in her arms.

Ariana rocked the girl, rubbing her back.

"She obviously cares about you very much. I assume it's just you and her? I don't think you've really told me about the rest of your family... not that I want to pry" said Tielle gently.

Samantha calmed down a little bit and sniffled. "I'm... I'm really in trouble, aren't I?" she said shakily. "D-do you think Mommy's gonna trust me on this trip anymore? I-I know I'm gonna get spanked, but I'm more worried about ruining everything now..."

Natalie sighed and looked as if she might cry. "When I fell pregnant with Samantha, I was sixteen. My parents, practically millionaires, told me to get an abortion or they'd disown me. I told them to get lost and bought my own apartment. Then, when Samantha was six her father left. We both agreed it was the best, but one day... he just stopped caring about her. Said she'd ruined all his opportunities in life. I... I still love him as much as the day I met him but Samantha comes first."

"She'll trust you," Ariana assured, but not really sure herself. "Natalie really loves you. You're the most important person to her."

Tielle held Natalie close and rocked with her as she might Isabella. "Oh you poor dear... You're so very brave and an amazing parent. I know women who would have broken from the very beginning. And it's obvious Samantha loves you back - you're the most important thing in the world to her, just like she is to you."

Samantha went back to sobbing into her friend's shoulder, shivering and shaking and afraid she was going to lose everything she had worked to get over the past few days.
