The Other Half Of Pike Place (for marianna)

Lucy went around and rounded up all of the Pokemon (who could fit in the backseat) and put the others into their Pokeballs. Shuckle, Abra, Cyndaquil, Makuhita, all crammed into the backseat, happy that they got to come along for a shopping trip for once. Usually, they were left at home because of the girls, but today they were in luck. Cyndaquil immediately started a rousing driving song, much to Shuckle's chagrin.

It was wonderful to hear Cyndaquil's singing for once instead of Snivys, Loudreds or Beautifly's. Daisy didn't complain about the noisemaking.
When she pulled it to the parking lot, however, she opened her phone, glanced at the screen and froze. Her eyes glistened.

"What happened?" Lucy asked, concerned by her expression. Last time she'd made that face after being on the phone, they had found out Steven had died. She turned to the backseat to face the Pokemon (who were still singing loudly) and asked them to please quiet down for just a minute.

Daisy scooped her Luvdisc up for a squeeze. "Oh, hun, you won't believe it. My sisters are in Hoenn! Can they come over? Is it ok?"

"Of course it's okay. You know you don't need to ask me that." It had been quite a while since Lucy had seen Violet and Lily. She liked them, and they got along well enough, but if Lucy were honest, it wasn't easy to find conversation topics with them. Both in college, they were still very much into their "partying phase," which Lucy had never been through. She didn't judge them for it by any means, because she knew it was a fairly normal rite of passage, but it didn't make it easy to carry on long discussions.

Daisy answered Lily's text. Then, while Lucy herded the Pokemon out, she showed off her best dance moves in the parking lot.

"What do we have to buy today, dear?" Lucy asked as she picked out a shopping cart. They Pokemon immediately piled in, and Lucy removed them, reminding them that was not its primary function. She imagined the list would expand if they were entertaining guests.

Daisy moonwalked her way into the mall. "Well, sweet, it's been so long since we went shopping for ourselves. I feel like I really need new spring dresses. We need to find blue ones - and I so want vintage clothes for a change. I need a knee-length one, an above-the-knee-length one, a long one - and a blouse and miniskirt wouldn't hurt, would they? I look great in pink; I'd better get a pink spring sweater. But I'll need an emergency outfit for today! I'll need SEVERAL of them. You, too, hun. There's no way I'm going to let the fashion snobs I'm related to see us looking like something that fell out of the back of a dump truck! And while we're at it, can we look at jewelry? Earrings, bracelets and necklaces. ..."

"Dear, we don't look like we fell out of a dump truck," Lucy tried to reason, but she knew there was no changing Daisy's mind when she was in one of these states. She was not a fan of shopping or malls, and usually just silently endured the process for Daisy's sake, opting to hold the bags and wait outside of stores alongside the husbands and boyfriends while her wife frolicked. Today, however, it sounded like she was going to be dragged inside. "And I don't think I need a new outfit." Unlike Daisy, she could live with being called unfashionable.

Daisy fairly hauled her into the mall. "Will you quit being so lazy and browse for something? You'd look beautiful in purple or lavender, but silvers worth a try, too, and you should let me braid your hair."
