Everything hurt. He'd developed a monster of a headache, and he couldn't keep his eyes open as the fluorescent light overhead hurt him. House would be grumpy as ever but he knew they had to cover their bases, and that included testing for Lupus, not that he had ever thought he had it, and doing a complete diagnostic workup. He had a little bit of trouble breathing, as his thyroid had slowly swollen over several hours to a couple of days, and it felt as if he were trying to swallow a golf ball.

"Wilson--" House tried to interject but before he could say anything more, Wilson had officially decided to admit him. He hated to be the patient but he had to be reasonable. He knew that he'd be too ill to go home, or even get out of this bed. House's life could be at risk.

Cameron nodded and took the time to wrap a blood pressure cuff around House's other arm before she went out of the room and down the hall to House's office. House had forgotten to tell the younger doctor that he'd locked the part of his desk where he hid his results, but it would not be all that difficult for Cameron to get by the lock. Those 'breaking and entering' skills House had taught her and the other two doctors, of course for their patients' protection, finally came in handy for something actually legal.

Once Cameron had left the room, House tried to talk, but he could barely hear himself. "Wilson... I--I need to see those results," House couldn't get his voice volume over a whisper. His clothes were sticking to him, damp with sweat and his body temperature had risen. He could barely hear himself, his heart rate climbing to over 150 beats per minute. The monitor registered his blood pressure as 177 over 70.

“You do.” Wilson agreed with a sigh, before his eyes shifted over to the machines. His eyes narrowed slightly in concern. Why was it climbing so high, so suddenly? It couldn’t be caused by liver damage, not just spikes like this. “Jesus Christ.” Wilson muttered, before standing up. “Okay, House…I need you to focus on me as best you can.” He said gently, coming around and standing right by House so he could actually hear what his best friend was saying. House was speaking so quietly Wilson could not hear him over the screeching of the machines.

He sat the file on House’s lap, not that the man could read probably, considering how his body had essentially gone haywire. “House, I need you to think if there is anything at all in those old results that might have done this. It’s not the drugs, at least I don’t think so.”

The oncologist knew he was talking fast, but he had no choice. They needed to get those numbers down, and Cameron would need time to look over the results. “If you have any idea what this could be, you need to tell me.” Wilson said firmly, before going over the symptoms himself. Blood pressure, temperature, heart rate…had they tested for thyroid levels? Wilson blinked, before snatching the files back to quickly check. Cameron was nothing if not thorough, at the least.

She had, and Wilson almost hadn’t paid any attention to the numbers because House’s counts had been so abnormal. “Something’s up with your thyroid.” He muttered, turning the sheet around so that House could see. “I didn’t even see that before. House, has this been a problem for a while? Just nod, if you can’t speak.”

Momentarily House blacked out, coming to when his best friend told him to focus on him. House couldn't control his eye movements and wouldn't be able to look at Wilson. He couldn't speak coherently and he opted to tug down his collar to show the other doctor his swollen neck. As expected he wouldn't be able to go over the recent results but recalling that his thyroid hormone levels were elevated he wouldn't need to.

"Suh--st-storm," he choked out, and unable to hide it he looked so scared. He'd often thought to end it all, to get relief for his severe chronic pain that didn't come from a bottle, but when it actually came to life or death he didn't want to die. He could be wrong on his diagnosis of thyroid storm but he had no time for a differential; his body had gone completely haywire and all he could do was nod in response to Wilson's questions.

Cameron returned to the room with the file that held House's previous test results tucked under her arm and her heart sank when she realized how quickly House had deteriorated. It would be exactly as she'd feared. "Oh, god..." she swallowed thickly. They had to move him to the ICU, at least temporarily so he would be in an environment where they could stabilize him and treat his thyroid storm. Down the hall in the conference room, Chase and Foreman's pagers went off.

Thyroid storm. Wilson's own face paled, and he immediately began reading the bed so that they could move to the ICU. "Cameron, I need you to go ahead to the ICU and tell them we need a room prepped. We don't have a lot of time." Wilson said urgently, motioning for her to go ahead. "I'll meet you there." He added, before snagging the IV to roll along with them. Normally he'd just get a new one, but there wasn't time and House's body was losing control.

"Stay with me House, you're going to be fine." Wilson promised, pushing House along towards the ICU. He could hear Chase and Foreman hurrying down the hall towards them, and the blonde man froze when he saw House in the bed. "No time for questions." Wilson cut them both off, motioning for them to follow him. He skidded into the ICU, working to get House hooked up to all the machines over again. "I need you to get me iodine, beta blockers, and PTU. We need to stop the storm first." Wilson ordered, and Chase nodded before hurrying out the door.

Foreman helped Wilson get House hooked up, before the neurologist sighed at the readings before noting them down. Wilson focused on House again as Chase reappeared with the necessary meds, beginning to hook them up to the IV. "You're going to be fine." Wilson promised, offering House what he hoped was a reassuring smile. "We're going to see what we can do about your thyroid and go from there. It's going to be okay." He murmured softly, his hand moving to lightly squeeze House's to offer a bit of comfort.

Cameron nodded and hurried out of the room and down to the ICU on the second floor. Cameron relayed the necessary information to one of the senior nurses on call and a room would be ready for House. Cameron noted the room number and went out of the ICU, and running into the other doctors when they got out of the elevator on the second floor she hurried beside House's bed. "Room 210."

House took one of the hot blankets and covering his face he dried his tears and blocked out the light. Rationally he knew he'd be fine but he couldn't think or concentrate, and he didn't really listen to Wilson as he didn't understand what was being said, but Wilson holding his hand did comfort him. He couldn't believe this - well, he could, as he'd known of his thyroid dysfunction for over a week and his misuse of opioids led to the thyroid storm. He couldn't believe that his team would drop everything, even his patient that he didn't know had died, to care for him.

"...Wh..." he took the blanket from his face so his voice wouldn't be so muffled, "what... what about... Katie?" he questioned, voice hoarse from his swollen thyroid; he'd forgotten his recent patient's name, Annabelle, and his brain filled the gap with Katie. Running a high fever, House would be too out of it to even realise his mistake.
