House MD - Joys of Fatherhood { for finkfly90
It seemed to be an uneventful autumn day at Princeton Plainsboro teaching hospital for the diagnostics department, but it would not last long. House had recently signed his previous patient's discharge papers and he was about to assign other work to Cameron, Chase and Foreman. He was interrupted when Cuddy came in, holding in her hands something she hoped to be of interest to the diagnostician and his team.
"Nine year old girl, found at the bottom of a staircase in full cardiac arrest." that didn't appear to capture House's intrigue, so Cuddy continued. "Her kidneys are shutting down, and she has a myriad of other symptoms." of course, this meant that the emergency room physician could not come to a diagnosis and they had to pass the patient to diagnostics before she ended up succumbing to her illness.
Cameron looked over the file and frowned, "she's so young to be going through this herself... Where're her parents...?"
"We haven't been able to ID her. Paramedics said she was found alone by a man that was out running. She's confused and scared." Cuddy handed over the perplexing patient file and looked to House, hoping that he would take this case - this little Jane Doe was covered in bruises, had a high fever, was confused and agitated, and presented to the ER with a dislocated knee and shoulder. She was covered in dirt, as if she'd been buried or lived on the streets.

During the little monologue, the door to the office opened and Doctor house walked in using his trusty cane for support. He saw his staff’s attention fully on some paper work and he just stood there. “Don’t mind me, I’m just returning from a crappy weekend.” He said into the silence until one of the student volunteer assistants can up to him. “Coffee, Doctor House?” He asked, making the man smirk. “Finally, some service!” He said before parting him on the shoulder. “Decaf, lotta whiskey.” He said as he walked off, leaving the boy confused

Cuddy sighed softly as House strolled by her, not even glancing at the patient file. "Just do your jobs. I admitted her to room 608A." that room would be a short distance from House's office, as per usual for their patients. Cuddy was concerned that their little Jane Doe didn't have much time left.
Cameron looked over the patient's test results; they were only able to run a CBC and metabolic panel as they could not get her to cooperate with a urinalysis. Cameron looked up to House for his input, "her myoglobin is elevated, it's really high... and her kidneys are in trouble."
"Means she was injured." said Dr. Chase thoughtfully, "makes sense if she fell down the stairs." if the myoglobin was elevated slightly, it would make sense - however, 'Jane's levels were higher than they had ever seen.

As the student was swift to return to get the proper coffee that House ordered, with only a tiny drop of alcohol to give it flavor and make the doctor happy, the doctor walked up with a small limp and shook his head. He didn’t say anything or backtalk his staff like he would usually do. He was staring at this patient, enchanted, like he has seen this girl before and known her his own life. Maybe he needs to take less of his ‘happy pills’

An emergency room nurse ensured their mystery patient's comfort before leaving her in House's care. As House and his team entered the patient room, her eyelids fluttered and striking blues stared back at them.
"Hi," Cameron greeted her gently and took a step closer, but she stopped when the girl moved further away from her, afraid. "Hey, it's okay, we aren't going to hurt you. We're doctors, we're here to help you."
Jane let out a shaky breath and pulled the blanket up to cover her head. Her kidneys were in terrible pain, as well as her joints that were injured and swollen. She didn't want to be here, but she needed care, and she had nowhere to go.
Cameron looked back to House, Chase and Foreman with a soft sigh. They needed more information from her to diagnose and treat her, but it would be an issue if she wouldn't talk to them at all.
