Ginny reached out for it, glassy-eyed, even as he walked away, but was soon jolted back into reality when she felt several livid pairs of Gryffindor eyes bore into her.
The poor girl sat with her mouth open, brown eyes wide, looking younger and more helpless than ever as she stared at the head of the class. The desk was a fearsome one, even in the light, and the man sitting as it was as forbidding as a Dementor - to a witch who had been fortunate enough never to meet one. Her big brothers had told her what a piece of work Professor Snape was... but she'd thought they were just trying to scare her. Like the time George gave her exploding gobstoppers, or the time Ron put Scabbers in her schoolbag.
Big brothers could be horrible!
She set to shaky work on her potion, getting a bit of help from the Ravenclaws beside her.
But all she could think about all day was her special notebook.

Snape placed the notebook in his desk and locked it, resolving to probe its secrets then destroy it after the students had gone to bed.

A certain little Gryffindor couldn't forget about that blank-seeming book. As though the malevolent spirit locked inside it called out to her, sensing Severus' intentions.
The girl peeked around the corner of the dungeon halls after supper, just in time to see Filch and his beloved cat ask Snape to follow him. He grudgingly complied, following the sour caretaker around the other corner of the dungeon.
Ginny beamed! She couldn't believe her luck!
She slipped back into the classroom, and scampered across the stone-wrought floor to the potion-master's desk. She pushed it up, and then blinked when it wouldn't give. She pulled at it, her slender arms no match for the lock. Tilting her head, Ginny blinked at the keyhole, and then brightened, pulling out her wand. After several poorly pronounced incantations, the little first-year witch resorted to poking the tip of her wand into the opening and jiggling around.
It didn't work.
The redhead blinked, and looked to th vials atop a shelf behind the professor's desk, brown eyes burning with hope. She went to it, but foun she couldn't reach even the lower rung. Looking back, the desks and chairs seemed so far away...
She climbed.
Clumsily.
Whether or not she was on edge, the rash-acting young Weasley staggered a little, knocking a jar of presevered bat-spines to the side, sending several others crashing to the floor. Soon, green, yellow, purple and red ooze spread across the floor, andlittle Ginny's face went white.
It went through many shades when she heard footsteps from the hall.
The impish young witch climbed down, and sprinted towards a cupboard which also resided behind the potion-master's desk, and she closed herself in, hiding in the dark.

Professor Snapes already foul mood worsened when he noticed the shattered jar, he waved his wand and vanished it, he looked round the room intently "If whichever dunderhead did that is still here, come out now and I may be merciful, make me look for you and you will feel the full force of my displeasure."

In the darkness, poor Ginny was torn. She wanted to come out and show herself, hoping she wouldn't get yet more points taken from her house, but on the other hand... she wanted her notebook so desperately it ached. Her legs knocked together fearfully, and she moved further back into the cupboard in the blackness. She trembled, brown eyes shining, determined to stay hidden.

Snape waved his wand once more to detect any magic in the area, he studied the results intently for several minutes and went serching round the room until he came to the cupboard, He flung it open "Get out here now." He said in a forbidding tone.

The little redhead witch felt her heart leap into her throat at the sudden tearing open of the door. She clung to the spare robes hanging up, too bewildered to follow the demand straight away. His voice sent shivers up and down her spine - even when mummy or dad shouted at her, it never made her feel so alarmed as she felt right now.
After a few shaky moments, the girl inched forward, until she was just peeking around the cupboard door, looking at the man with fearful dark eyes.
Caught like a...a... rat in a trap!

"Miss Weasley, I had hoped that it wasn't you in here." Snape continued in the same tone and pulled her out by her arm "Did you know that the book you were writing in was heavily enchanted?"

Ginny tried to pry off the potion master's fingers, but his grip was iron. She shook her head, thick red hair swaying, "Yes! It's mine...! ...Give it back!" The book was already taking over her whole body, for she was desperate to have it, even though the man's deep, severe tone made her bare legs feel like jelly.

"It is not yours, it belongs to TM Riddle and you could not have enchanted it anyway." Snape said sternly "Where and when did you get it, I will smack the answer out of you if I must."
