Spock was still very young and there was many things he needed to learn yet, and one of those things was the human impulses he had that could be helped. "I cannot control the impulses Father, just as you could not control marrying your wife." he said, disrespect in his voice that time. As he was lead down the mountain trail, he had no choice but to follow. "Father...you are going to punish me, correct?"

"In that case then, my son, I shall be all to willing to provide you with a lesson on self-control," Sarek all too calmly declared as they continued on down the trail; he had to cast the boy a reprimanding glance, however, at noting how blatant the disrespect in Spock's tone was becoming. While he didn't wish to engage the young half-Vulcan in an all too involved argument, he did feel it appropriate to comment on how he seemed to address his own mother "Do not forget, my son, how subjective a term 'control' is. Had I not though to marry your mother then you would not even had the opportunity to...comment...on the fact."
The elder Vulcan did not spare the boy another glance as they approached the bottom of the mountain trail, merely continued to lead them on "Affirmative Spock; I am going to punish you in the privacy of our own home--where your shame will not have to be witnessed by any onlookers."

Spock did not utter another word as his Father went on to explain about not marrying his mother, his existence and then about bringing him shame. All of which he knew to well, and was reason for his leaving home to dwell in the mountains, out of his Father's judging gaze, he could feel at peace with himself. Which was difficult for a young half Vulcan to do, when all he did was bring his Father shame with his very existence. That was just a theory of Spock's however, and he did not know it was the truth, he just felt it was. It seemed logical for Sarek to be shamed by his son Spock's very existence, him being only a half blood.

Depending on the point of view; it was either an unfortunate occurrence that the family home was situated so close to the mountain-range trail or a relief from having to drag out any unneeded tension between father and son. One thing that Sarek be pleased about, however, was the current absence of Spock's mother from the home; while it was a spacious building, Sarek did not wish her any concern over the matter.
The elder one continued on towards his son's room in silence.

Spock often dreamed of the day he would be grown enough to leave Vulcan, to stop the shame he showed his Father, and join star fleet. No longer did he desire to attend the Vulcan academy of science, it did not interest him. He followed his Father through the house and to his room, once he was there, he looked around, fear evident in his eyes. There was a pause, before he spoke. "I am sorry to have always brought you shame, Father." he spoke confidently.

Now it was Sarek's turn to pause at Spock's rather sudden apology; out of the many things that he had expected his son to have spoken to him at that moment, that was honestly a statement that he hadn't anticipated.
He studied the boy for a moment, gaze lingering long enough to catch the intensity of emotion behind Spock's deeply human eyes before turning to sit atop the younger one's bed "It is your behaviour that brings me shame, Spock." he clarified as he waited for Spock to approach him "Although I have tried my best to educate you in Vulcan discipline, some of the more vital lessons seem to have been ignored in favour of such...illogic..."

Spock looked at his Father, studying his profile though not a lot could be read other than stern eyes. Hearing that it was his behavior that brought him shame, the Vulcan could not help but forget his place, and argue. "That is not true, you look upon me with shame, for the fact I am only half Vulcan." he answered and neared his Father even though he didn't want to be near him at that time. "Because humans are not logical, and that is why."

"I look upon you as any parent, Vulcan or human, would look upon their disobedient child Spock," Sarek firmly admonished as he reached to pull the boy from his feet across his lap in one swift motion "While you may seek to wallow in self-pity over the matter and allow it to sorely colour your actions, I happen to firmly believe that you can be guided from such a reckless path if you would only listen to me."

The young Vulcan child was still not assured, the looks his Father often gave him told him otherwise of his pride in him. He had none, or so it seemed to a young child who would have liked nothing more than to make his Father proud. But upon finding that he could not accomplish this, he followed human instinct and rebelled, unwilling to listen to the man he called Father. As he was laid over his Father's lap, Spock began to let emotions overcome him. "Father...please, do not...."

"Enough, Spock," Sarek gently admonished, raising his hand to land a smack of contrasting firmness across his young son's backside "You were warned not to head into the mountains without due cause, and now you must pay for your disobedience. Now I wish to know just what was so important it was worth punishment?"
