Default A Hunter's New Position

Gilbert Orwell wasn't the best in this profession, rusty at best. Before beasts had overrun most of Great Britain, he'd been a school teacher, and was happy with the profession. But he'd become a hunter of these monsters for the longest time, and nearly forgot how important the search for knowledge was. So, when her majesty offered him a teaching position to young creatures, who she thought could be corrected, he was more than happy to take the position.

Currently, his classroom was set up to his liking. Not many desks, in a small room, which made the room warm quickly from the pot belly stove in the side of the room. On his desk sat a few books, a small clock for him and the students to see, and a paddle which he mostly put there for cosmetic reasons, not having anything else to decorate the desk with. He wasn't sure why her majesty's men, who'd set the room up, gave this to him, but he was surely going to find out soon.

Now, all he had to do was wait for the last "monster" to arrive.

The monster seem to vary quite a bit. They were not only tied to Great Britain, or Europe in general. They were all over. There were things like these bird people known as Harpies, reptile like people that were similar to snakes known as Nagas. THere were also werewolves, bat looking creatures, merfolk and so on.

Luckily for this man though, with such a small room and class, and seeing how this wasn't exactly an official thing, he would be dealing with very few monsters. One of them just so happened to be a Harpy, who was actually given a dress with a short skirt at the bottom to wear in order to accommodate for her nudity. This dress was white at the chest, black for the skirt and at the collar, it was red, just like the rimming of the skirt. The Harpy had white skin and her feathers were red with black spots in them. Her feet were bird like feet were dark brown and ended in sharp claws. She was somewhat small, standing at a height of five feet. She simply went by the name of "One" which was a tag on her shirt, that way the class could easily acknowledge her. She was probably going to have her name revealed eventually.

The next one to come in appeared to be female kobold, one that was wearing the same uniform as the Harpy. She seemed rather curious, but looked irritated too, like something was bother her a great deal. She had gray scales and solid blue eyes. She had lighter gray scales on her lower jaw, belly and other places that were covered up by her clothing. She was short too, standing at a height of three feet and five inches. Her number was seventeen.

Finally, the last person came in, it was a simple looking boy, standing around five feet, black pants, white shirt with a six on it. He had ruffled, black hair, which had two strange looking protrusion out of the top. Looked a lot like ears. The thing that stuck out the most was that gray tail he had that was limp behind him.

Eventually, once Gilbert finally realized that nobody else was going to be entering the room, he stood up and looked around the classroom. He had an intimidating man, standing at six feet, seven inches, with thick muscles, and dark attire, including a heavy coat. His hair was long, dark blond, and his face was clean shaven. What made his appearance the most unsettling, was his eyes. The left one was missing, and in it's place, and eye patch covered it. The right eye was heavy with cataracts, and the pupil was mush, but it was almost as if it didn't effect his vision.

"Good morning, class. I see you're the fresh, young minds that the queen has found." He speaks in a heavy, deep voice, but it had a warm tone to it, and accompanied by his very slight smile, it gave the impression that he was going to try making this a good experience.

"First off, my name is Mr. Orwell." He tells the class, going over and writing his name on the chalk board, then turning around, finally pausing for a second to observe the students, hoping to see some interest on their young faces.

Well, the Harpy seemed interested in both his name and his...face. As she stood there and continued to stare at him, the Kobold did't seem to care much as she kept diverting her attention elsewhere, like to the wall, or the spider on the window. Meanwhile, there boy, who was likely a werewolf to some extent, just didn't seem to be that interested in the introductions here.

"What happened to your eyes?" The Harpy suddenly asked as she pointed at him. More specifically, his messed up eyes. A little rude, yes, but she was learning, and probably would learn even more later once he was done with her and the others.

"Yeah...how can you even see? Do they put something in you?" Asked seventeen as she seemed focused on him too now. A little more rude from her too, likely due to curious. No matter though, she would probably get better down the road.

The boy remained silent, simply waiting for him to move on.

"Well girls, first off, if you're going to ask a question in the class, please raise your hand first." Gilbert starts off, wanting to make sure they knew.

"As for my eyes. Well, hmm." The teacher pauses a moment, and sighs. "I'm not sure if it's a story that is entirely appropriate for this environment actually. But, I will tell you two, and the class, under two conditions. One, handle the story maturely. Two, afterwards, tell me a bit about yourself, can we agree on this?" Gilbert asked the bird and the reptile, stepping around his desk, and leaning against it gently.

Well, him telling them that they had the raise their hands only lead to them asking even more questions without really doing as he said. "Why do we have to raise our hands when we can just speak to you?" Asked the Kobold, watching the man sit down. Seeing him sit down, she decided to do the same, although she sat on the desk rather in her seat, meanwhile, the Harpy seemed to do the same, simply sitting in her chair with her wings in her lap, same went for the wolf boy.

"Does it have something to do with you being a hunter?" Asked the boy all of a sudden in a monotone voice. "The over coat is sort of a dead give away to what you may have been already..."

"It does, actually." Gilbert tells the boy, giving him an approving nod for his observation. He then turns back to the girls.

"As for you two, raising your hand in a classroom. Or sitting in the chairs, and not on the desk, it's a matter of respect. You do it to show your grace, and to overall give yourself a better sense of character." Gilbert then looks down at himself, and chuckles.

"I guess I should stop too." He laughs, standing up, and stepping forward to the front of the class, trying to set a good example for them.

"Oh..." Said seventeen before quickly getting into her seat before she got in any sort of trouble for being disobedient. She didn't know why, but she really didn't like the look of that paddle on the desk. Every time she looked at it, she got this feeling of dread or fear instead of wanting to ask questions about it.

One knew exactly what it was though and lightly smiled and raised her hand just then. Apparently she actually seemed to catch onto the whole respect thing rather quickly, despite her sort of naive nature. "What's the paddle for?" She suddenly asked without thinking.

Gilbert takes a breath, and glances over at it, grimacing at the thought of having to use it.

"That, is something for punishments. When it comes to respect, if you're not respectful, then I'd punish you, if you do good, however, you'll be rewarded. Make sense?" Gilbery asked One, explaining in general what the paddle was, without delving into how it will be used.

But that Harpy really, really wanted to know. Among everything else in the boring classroom, it looked like the only special thing in there. "How will it makes us respect people? Does it... Hurt us or something? I heard thst humans really like hurting people like us because they do it so much already." Said the Harpy as seventeen shrunk down in her seat, not liking the sound of that paddle. Problem was that she didn't know how to avoid it if she could.

"That's probably because it's true..." Muttered the werewolf as he looked away with a grunt. He already hated it here before, but now it was getting to him even more.
