She picked James up and laid him face down in her lap -- a position James was all too familiar with though not usually for a shot. "OK James you be a big brave boy for Daddy."

James gave a little cry when Mommy smacked his bare bottom and settled down.

The little boy's face went red when the nurse said, "You'd think a little boy with a bare fanny would mind just a little better."

The doctor chuckled and said, "Actually, Karen. I think I could administer this better if I took James in my lap."

The doctor sat down on a chair next to Karen and the nurse helped Karen lift James up and put him into the doctor's lap. "Just relax, James." he told the boy. It will just be a small pinch. It will hurt much less than the spanking you got."

Karen with James in the back seat have just arrived at the outskirts of the
neighboring town where her parents live. She knows James will have fun here where there are wide spaces for him to roam -- a little wooded area. They pull into the driveway and some chickens scatter. "Oh dear, Karen says, it looks liek Gramma's chickens got loose again. We'd better say 'hi' to her and Grandpa and help them shoo the chickens back into the pen."

She stops the car and toots the horn. Her mother comes out the front door waving. "Where's my little James?" she calls.

She laughed and put him down just as her husband Sam, his ever present briar pipe in his mouth, came out of the door.

Sam hurried over and tousled the boy's hair. "You sure are getting to be a big boy. Can you help me shoo the chickens back into the fenced in pen?" he asked James pointing at some chickens pecking in the dirt.

Karen picked up their suitcases, but Sam shook his head. "Leave them. James and I will bring them in in a bit. Go inside and relax with Martha."

He walked towards the chickens waving his hands towards them
