As the smoke cleared, Link could be seen on his knees right next to the fire pit. He had tears in his eyes as he looked behind him to see the blonde princess return, clearly as speechless as he was as he let out a gulp. She yells at him when he does his job and protects her. He doesn’t even want to imagine what she’ll do to him when he does something that would harm her and her belongings. He tried to open his mouth like he was going to speak but words didn’t come out.

Zelda wastes no time with him, hurrying over to her pack. Or rather, what's left of it. Just about the entire thing is burned through, with nearly every item inside burned to a cinder. Her clothes, her supplies, her research journals....her journals! "Oh, damn it!" It had taken months to fill those out. Now, all that effort amounted to a pile of ash. She could probably recall most of the data, but a great deal of it would certainly be lost in any case. She wheeled on Link, furious. "Do you have any idea what you did! All that research is now gone!" She nearly reached back and slapped him outright, but her raising as a proper noble woman kept her from flying off the handle. So far.

Link cringed as he could feel the girl’s anger rising by the second. He knew he would have to try and make it to her for probably his entire life. Unfortunately, all of the nearby shops are most definitely closed at this time so he couldn’t even go out and buy her new clothes and supplies until the morning. All he could do now is hope she gives him the opportunity as he hung his head low sadly as she took her anger out on him

Zelda was well in the swing of venting at this point. "So what, you doze off and let the fire burn out of control, and destroy everything? Not exactly the most capable guardian, are you?" That last jab felt almost cruel, but in her current angered state she didn't care. She knew how much effort Link put into keeping her safe, and denigrating that felt like appropriate revenge for what she had lost. Not that her own contributions to their mission had exactly worked out as planned, but she wasn't the one letting things catch fire. "So what now, hm? Are we supposed to just continue one with the clothes on our backs? It'll be days before we reach a place to resupply."

Link bite his lip as he was chastised and yelled at by the blonde princess. He has fought countless battles and slay many beasts, not once was he a tiny bit frightened. But now, somehow, he was scared. Scared of the small princess that was yelling at him. Terrified he may lose her forever. Not even thinking, he dove down at her feet with his hand clasped begging for forgiveness

Zelda scoffed at his display of submission. It was only right; after all, she was his princess, and it was his place to be at her feet. And it felt good to see Link, who had so annoyed her these pasts months with nothing she could do about it, finally brought low. She stopped for a moment, thinking that perhaps she was being cruel, but her anger blinded her. "Oh, how quaint. I would expect as much from you, who didn't do anything to earn your place in my company. That sword is all that hides the undisciplined boy you are." She shook her head, still boiling with rage. "Just....get out of my sight..." She looked away, crossing her arms and going to see what could be retrieved from her pack.

Link’s eyes teared up at this, but he hung his head so low that she couldn’t see it. He can’t leave her. Not like this. He was willing to do anything to made her feel even slightly better. Anything... He stayed low at her feet as his body shook from shame and sadness, hoping for any kind of mercy from his princess that would bring him even a tiny bit closer to forgiveness

The princess spent several minutes going through her pack, trying to find anything that was salvageable. In the end, the only things that could be saved were a pittance of cloths and her pouch of rupees. At least they would be able to resupply when they did reach a town. As she went through her supplies, the explosive anger of earlier had cooled off somewhat, to replaced by a lower simmering disappointment. She cast a glace over to Link, who was currently sulking like a reproached child. As well he should have been; her anger threatened once more to well up, but Zelda was able to keep a lid on it this time, and began to realize that perhaps she had been unfair. For all she knew, this had happened while he was out searching for her. She sighed, shaking her head. He still should have put the fire out. And the last thing she wanted was a mopey companion for the rest of the journey. He wasn't going to forgive himself unless she did, but she wasn't quite ready for that just yet.

As a tone of silence filled the room, Link looked up as his female companion with tears in his eyes. What was she going to do now? What is she planning? Was she going to tell her father, use a spell to set his pants on fire? Why is she just standing there? And is it too late to do anything about it? Despite this, he remained low in a humbled stance.

Finishing with the remains of her pack, Zelda figured it was time to confront Link again. She took a few deep breaths, trying to calm down so she didn't say anything she regretted. Again. She stood up, making her way over to where Link was sitting. "Alright. You fell asleep by the fire, and all of our supplies are now ash. If you had been more attentive, this wouldn't have happened." She could tastes the irony of implying he was inattentive. "As a result, I have lost much of my research and nearly all of our supplies. As such, the rest of this journey is going to be...difficult." Taking a moment to think before speaking, she considered her options. She could send him back to the castle, but she wasn't sure he would follow that order. She could go back herself, but that would mean delaying her trip, which she absolutely did not want to do. But the air needed to be cleared. She thought about how, in truth, Link was not much more than a squire; his knighthood was a formality at best. How did the knights at the castle go about their squires? An idea began to form in her head. It would be....awkward, but workable. "Go and fetch me a sturdy branch from the woods. No thicker than your thumb, some three feet long."
