Life at the Farm (for Verity79)
Life was great for Cole Jefferson. He was a 20 year old high school graduate who has been living a great life the past few years after high school. He never went to college or applied for jobs so every day would be the same thing of waking up, playing video games, taking a break to eat, play more games before going to sleep and repeating it the next day. But finally his parents had enough. Unable to get him motivated to get a job or go to college, he was kicked out and sent to live with his Aunt and Uncle. Unfortunately for him, they lived in a small town in the middle of nowhere. He only would see them and his younger cousin during Christmas sometimes if they could make it out so he doesn’t know them that well but he does know they have very little or no internet so he’s depressed about that and that his aunt and mom are sisters.
The bus stopped at the bottom of the hill that led up towards the new house he was living in for the immediate future. Cole got off the bus with headphones in his ears, very messy and greasy black hair covered his eyes slightly as well as light facial hair. He had on a black hoodie and matching black sweatpants, which seemed awful to walk in for this heat. He had dirty sneakers on as well. After he got into his gaming habit, he gained a lot of weight so he was a bit on the chubbier side. He had a backpack on as the rest of his stuff was being delivered to the house. With a disappointed sigh, he began walking up the hill.
After a good long while, he finally reached the house in the middle of the farm. He groaned as he was already displeased with the smell coming from the nearby animals but he hoped he would get used to it soon. He then knocked on the door and his younger cousin was the one to open in. Emily was her name and she was a 16 year old farm girl that never really got along with Cole in the few times they met. She was dressed in a pair of jeans, a red plaid shirt, her brunette hair in pig tails and freckles on her face. “Dad, the freeloader is here!” She yelled out in annoyance as the two began glaring at each other

"Emily, try to be nice please" Michael says as he comes to the front door, wearing a pair of jeans with a silvery grey shirt on over top. He has short brown hair that barely reaches his ears. He reaches out and clasps Cole's hand, giving it a firm shake before ushering him inside. "So, your parents thought you could use some work on the farm ehh? Well, always plenty of work to be done about it, and never enough hands to do it. Come on in and maybe get changed into something a bit lighter, then we'll walk the farm and discuss your chores"

Emily rolled her eyes with his back turned to her. She then stuck her tongue out at him and began to walk away towards the farm to get started on her chores. Cole shook his uncle’s hand, wincing a bit at the firm handshake as he was starting to realize how much this was going to suck. “A-Actually, I’m not a farmer so I think I’ll pass on that. If you just show me to my room, I’ll just lay down.” He said, thinking that would work

"I'll show you to your room, but everyone around here has chores to get done. Part of life on the farm, ya know? Everyone contributes and everyone does their work and life goes along easily enough. Now come on, I'm not taking no for an answer, so let me show you to your room and I'll be back after a few minutes to show you around the farm and we can discuss your chores" The man says firmly, in a no-nonsense tone as he leads the boy to the second floor where his bedroom is located, just down the hall from Emily's room

Before he could complain, the man started walking away so Cole started walking with him so he can keep up the pace. He was then shown the room where all of his stuff was located, still in boxes and suitcases. He had a bed, a small writing desk, a lamp and a fan for really hot days already located in the room. But besides that, he didn’t have much room compared to his old room. “Isn’t it a bit… small?” He asked, already sounding ungrateful

"Maybe a bit, but it's cozy and it gives you more reason to spend time out with family instead of on your games. It's not healthy to spend all your time cooped up in your room, so this'll promote you to spend time getting some fresh air"

“I doubt that’s going to happen.” Cole said plainly as he checked the boxes to make sure none of them were dented during travel. Meanwhile Emily was too busy thinking about how much she’s going to hate Cole living here that she was absentminded enough to walk in the house to get a drink. All while she was tracking mud all over the downstairs as she entered the kitchen and towards the fridge

"I'll leave you to get unpacked, then we'll discuss your chores around the place" He says firmly before returning downstairs, frowning at the sight of mud everywhere. Clearing his throat, he enters the kitchen with arms crossed "Excuse me Emily, but I think you know better then to not take your boots off before entering the house if they're muddy by now"

Cole rolled his eyes but didn’t say anything until the uncle left the room, where he would mimic him with an unflattering voice. Meanwhile downstairs, Emily had a drink of orange juice in her hand as she almost dropped it at her dad’s booming voice. “I-I’m sorry dad! I’ll clean it!” She said, glass still in her hand

"You're damned right you will, young lady" He steps over to her and narrows his eyes as he sternly stares her down "Put your glass down and grab your knees. You know better than this, so I'm sure a quick reminder is all you'll need this time"
