Aria gave a little giggle as Olivia patted her head. She didn't know why, but for whatever reason it felt good to be praised. She didn't even know she needed that kind of positive reinforcement. After a few moments she realized what she was feeling. She quickly pushed them back down. She didn't want to get to attached just in case something happened or she had to leave. The little smile faded and her face returned back to its neutral look.

Olivia was pleased to see the girl happy and was admittedly a little sad when she saw that smile she had disappear. She didn’t know what was going through Aria’s mind and could only guess was that she had said something she shouldn’t have said. She gave Aria an apologetic look before positioning the book in front of her. “Okay....first things first, in order to actually use magic with a wand we don’t need any gestures or symbols, all you need to do is think of a spell that you know and direct the magic through the wand and to the tip, letting it release from there.”

Aria looked once more at the wand. By the way the magic naturally flowed and twisted around it, she though she could see what Olivia meant. "So it kinda lets mages use magic a bit like a natural magic user?" She asked. She gave it a quick try with a force spell that could repel small objects. She pointed the wand at an old chair. Gathering the magic she forced it into the tip and as the mage had instructed, released the spell. Before she even knew what had happened the chair was bouncing off the trees and into the forest where it disappeared.

Olivia gave a nod to her student’s question. “Indeed,” she answered and watched as Aria began following her instructions. When the chair blew into the forest she was impressed and a little upset. That chair had been one of her favorites before it had gotten old. Oh well, it was gone now. “Excellent work Aria, well done.”

"Um..." Aria said looking at the wand then up at Olivia. "Was that supposed to happen? It was only supposed to be a simple repulse spell." She looked at where the chair had don't into the woods. "I don't think it was supposed to go that far..." After a moment's thought she added, "um, sorry about the chair."

“Oh was that the spell you used?” Olivia asked before shrugging. “Well I suppose it was meant to happen. You may have gathered a bit too much magic, but that’s alright really. You did an excellent job for your first time.” She then waved off the apology. “It’s alright, it was old and rarely saw use these days anyway.”

Aria gave a little nod, she would have to learn more about how to control her abilities. She was a little impatient, but waited to see what Olivia told her to do next. She kept drawing in and slowly releasing her magic field from the wand as she waited. While Olivia would not be able to see it like Aria could, but she the girl was fairly sure she could sense it.

Olivia wondered what else they could do next and figured seeing if she could protect herself against spells would be beneficial. She took a breath and began to draw up magic before turning to Aria. “Alright next we shall work on your defense, I’ll direct a spell at you and it’s your job to redirect it. Let the magical field be your shield.”

Aria nodded and concentrated, once again gathering her magical energies into the tip of the wand. She just managed to spread out the magic in front of her. Though it was complete it was weak in several areas. She tried but just couldn't get it to full strength. After a few moments she said, "OK, that's about the best I can do. I'm as ready as I will be.."

Olivia nodded and throughout the spell. It was one only meant to throw her off of her feet so she’d be fine if it hit her. The target of the spell was one of the weak points in Aria’s defense. This was done on purpose so she’d have to focus her attention there when the spell hit.
