Fire Magic and Steel a University Tale

[Lordoftacos]

You feel the rumble of rails beneath you as they pulled along the wheels were pulled along the gear shaft. I thin stream of white mist was flowing past your window from the engine up front.

The train carriage that you were in was open with seats lining the walls. It was not very fall though and you could easily pick out the different people surrounding you. You could see a human mother wrapped in ornate and colorful clothes swaddling a small new born. A foreigner judging by her outfit. You saw soldier and armor in uniform probably on leave from the front lines of the blight war. You believe he is sleeping but it’s hard to tell past the armored gas mask. And you see in elf dressed in fine black clothing with a tall hat. He was reading a newspaper and not paying much attention to the people around him.

Then there was you. Only a week ago did you get your form inviting you to Lumen Futurae University in the city of Yeshelm. One of the largest most prestigious and all the nation.

as i sit in the train car i sigh after i take a look at all those around me, i was very nervous going to this new school, most anthro horses such as myself usually join in the army after they reach this point, but i had something else in mind, i take a look out the window again, wondering how soon it would be til the train reached the station, my name was sako, last name colt, a famous name in the anthro horse race, however the my family didn't do much despite having the colt name, i grip my suitcase to ease my nervousness, i wore rather nice clothes, a black vest and white long sleeve shirt, black pants and a brown cloak on my shoulders, this was not the usual clothing i wore, but i wore it to mabye impress someone on my first day at the university

As you sat there nervously clutching your bag another person walks into the carriage. A rather large and muscular individual with a slight tannish green to his skin. He is definitely an orc though he does not dress like one. His clothing is more professional and less expressive than the usual Orcish dress. Half of his head is shaved while the other half has long coyly black hair coming from it. All of a sudden he spots you and smile’s walking over to your seat and taking the one across from you.He places a small box lunch that he had in his hands on his lap and proceeds to eat a noodle like food from it. “Hey. Why the long face.” He says before belly laughing.

when i saw the orc walk in i was instantly intimidated, being much smaller and skinnier, usually the colt family was bulky and strong, however i was not the one for working out, and i only had small muscles in my arms, my legs however were a bit stronger, but not near as strong as the usual colt family build, i watch as the orc smiled at me and i instantly look away still intimidated, until he sits across from me and starts to eat, i hear the orc address me and i quickly face him not wanting to seem rude "a-are you talking to me?" i ask nervously

“Yah. I’m right across from you ain’t I.” He said. “Just thought I’d comment on ya face.” He then uses a long skinny wooden rod to scoop up some noodles and slurp them down. “I tell ya anything Yeshelm has the best noodles.” He then looks you up and down to check out your appearance. “Dressed like a fancy boy are we. Gunna guess you’re goin to the university. First time in a city?”

i nervously clutched my suitcase again "o-oh....w-well im just a bit nervous" i explained as watch the orc slurp up the noodles and complement them "they do look good" i say as he explained that Yeshelm had some great noodles, i nervously look down at my bag as the large orc looked over me "y-yeah im headed their now, i-i am new..." i explain

“Well.” He starts after wiping his mouth. “This is my second year back at the University and let me tell you that city life is by far different than country life.” He then goes for another slurp of noodles before wiping his mouth again. “But don’t feel too down about it. City is a big place so no want to pay any mind regardless of your race. Personally I thought people thought people would think it was weird that I went for alchemy and chemistry rather than any of The military or physical professions. But I’m the brainiac back in my village and I want it to show.” He then started to finish up the noodles before pausing and exhaling in satisfaction. He then looked back at you once again. “Say. Ya want me to show you around when we get to the city. First year’s orientation isn’t till tomorrow so we’ve got some time to explore.”

i listen to the orc as i nervously shift about "o-oh?" i start as he tells me how different the city was, i had grown up a helper for my parents farm, i was unable to carry the large carriages that they used to carry large batches of crops with so i worked on plowing for new crops, however most people and creatures worked inside, which i imagine would be alot different, however i liked the idea of it, i feel a bit reliefed and i calm my nervousness as i hear that race doesn't matter much in the city "thats a relief" i say sighing, i listen to the orcs story about how he is an alchemist and i feel a little less intimidated "thats cool!" i say then i hear him ask about showing me around "s-sure, that would be nice" i say a bit nervous again, but i decide it would be best to make some friends while im here

“Great.” He says. “My name is Condil by the way.” A few moments later the train into is a tunnel and things go darker side from the small blue orbs of light they keep the tunnel lit up. And a little while later is the darkness gives way to the golden and well lit interior of a station. Brighton golden on all sides. People start to shuffle their way out of the carriage now and Condil helps you find your way out of the carriage. His own luggage was a pack that was fairly large for anyone besides him.

The terminal was bustling but not crammed. Space was wide wider than anything that you never seen before. The roof was made of glass which natural sunlight shown through illuminating the whole interior. Suspended above it all in the middle was a large crystal which absorbs sunlight and scattered it to all of the darkest places of the terminal. Condil then leads you out of the terminal and into a plaza outside. Surrounding the plaza where roads and walkways switch many different people were either walking or using bicycles on. The roads were filled with all sorts of vehicles with three wheels for wheels and even six wheels. The buildings surrounding the terminal were tall and looked white as marble with large glass windows carved into them. Roadways bridges and walkways stretched between all of the different buildings at their highest points connecting and going through with them. You also noticed lines of glowing red or a high above the roads but you couldn’t tell what they were four until you saw a few of them fly over. Personal flying machines made of wood metal and fabric. Each with propellers on its wings and an engine that it’s tail spewing out green flame.
“Lot to take in.” Says Condil.

i nod as i hear the name of the orc and i speak up "im sako, n-nice to meet you" i say and before i can offer my hand the train went into the tunnel, i watched as the train passed the lights lighting up the inside of the train then making it dark again, but as it proceeds i could see the station up ahead, i look out the window as the light from the station shines though and i marvel over how the station looked, it was beautiful, i eagerly follow condil off the train and into the terminal, as we passed thought it i look up and all over as we enter the plaza "th-this place is amazing! i-its like nothing ive ever seem" as someone from a farm i never saw to much city, i marvel at all the machines and mechanisms!
