Damage seems to be card game similar to poker. When a player looses a hand they loose a Life and when a player lost all their lives they were out.
However, in Damage the Lives are real living lives often prisoners, slaves, one player in the book used minor wives, sometimes depressives would voluntary and some people could be paid to be Lives. Obviously, this is not the sort thing that a civilised society would allow so it was usually illegal and only played in End of the World situations where normal law and order enforcement had broken down or was packed and ready to leave.
For a RP instead of Lives being fatally electrocuted members of the player's entourage would be spanked. Possibly with player's own bottom being at risk when he is runs out of lives and it out of the game
