What god did I piss off to deserve this? Kankuro wondered bitterly, counting to ten for at least the seventh time that afternoon. Uzumaki Naruto wandered blithely next to him, chattering inanely about this and that, and generally making a giant nuisance of himself.

Yeah yeah, help to restore village relations. Go on a mission with a leaf-nin. Well, no one told me it'd be this guy. He might've saved Gaara back then, but he's still the number one loudest, most annoying shinobi I've ever come across.

He wiped a bead of sweat off his brow, before grunting as he shouldered his puppets again. The sun was damn hot, especially in the heavy clothes he was wearing. And there was Uzumaki, stomping blissfully along, not a care in the world. And the stuff he was babbling about, Sakura-chan this and Yamato-taichou that. Kankuro half-wanted to stab his own ears out.

"Do you always talk so much?" he asked bluntly. "Or do I need to gag you to get any peace and quiet around here?"

Naruto let out a hmph, and grunted. "Oh, stop complaining 'tebayo..." he muttered, putting his hands behind his head as he walked at a slow pace. "Grandma Tsunade sent me on this mission..." he grummbled.

Damn, when did it become so hot? Naruto wipped his forhead and took a small gulp from his canteen. "Jeesh, I could never handle living in the Sand village..." he groaned.

They had been walking along aimlessely for over an hour now; both were hungry and tired. Naruto sighed. "When are we going to have, like, I dunno, action in this mission? I don't want to just...walk around..."

"Keep complaining like that Uzumaki, I'll give you all the 'action' you can handle . . . " Kankuro muttered. He paused again to mop sweat from his brow, adjusting his forehead protector as he did so.

"We're almost to a little village I know where we can rest up and have a meal. If we keep walking along these dunes, we should be able to make it by sundown . . . that is, as long as you don't get distracted by anything else." Kankuro referred to an event yesterday where Naruto had wanted to explore a rocky ridge he'd discovered, and ended up getting them both lost. It'd lost them a good half day's travel in the process.

"Oh shut up..." he muttered, rolling his eyes as he continued to walk. "Oh my Goooooooooooooooooooooood...." he whinned, about to drop. "It's sooooooooooo hooooooooot!"

Kankuro looked at him testily. Did he just tell me to shut up?

"You think this is hot? This is nothing. You should come down here in the summer," he said. "Now, if I were you Uzumaki, I'd keep your trap shut until we get to that village. You're acting like a kid who hasn't even made genin yet with all this complaining. And if you keep whining about the heat--I'll heat up the skin of your ass to really give you something to whine about, got me? Besides, talking too much uses up the moisture in your mouth."

"...N-Nani?" the blonde looked to him. "Heh, the heat must be getting to you." he laughed, continuing to stroll along slowly, looking to the ground, suddenly, he tripped, falling ino Kankuro. "O-Oof~!"

"Oi! You trying to start something!?" Kankuro shouted, thinking Naruto was trying to mess with him. "That's it!" The larger Jounin picked Naruto up, and carried him bodily to a small dune. Using his chakra strings, Kankuro took out his large, crocodile-like puppet and had it scoot over to them, where he used it's back as a seat. Then, he tossed Naruto across his lap. "You've been asking for this all mission, Uzumaki . . . : he snarled.
