New Beginnings {for Monk2024}

The repetition of the fact that she had to ask for permission to go outside and play just caused the pout that Lexi already wore to get even more pronounced, the little girl stomping her foot as she said, "Don' likes the rules." As far as she was concerned there were far too many rules and she didn't want to obey them since she never had to before. It was hard to go from having freedom, even though it was really neglect, to being told that she had to have permission to do stuff and even worse to being told no. That was one word that the little blond girl definitely didn't like.

"Yes i understand that, however they are still the rules." Kyle said

"Don' has to be," Lexi told him, thinking that it would be great if he would just forget about the stupid rules and let her do what she wanted like her mother always did. "Mama didn' has no rules," she told the man, thinking that might help the situation and get him to change his mind about making her do things that she didn't want to do. The little girl looked at him as she said that, hoping that it was going to work and that she was going to get what she wanted.

"Well I have to have rules and you need to follow them." Kyle said

"Why?" Lexi asked him predictably when he told her that he had to have rules and that she needed to follow them, the little girl wanting to know why that was the case. To her it didn't make sense for one person to have rules and another to not have them so she wanted to know why it was something that the man was maintaining that he had to do. Her blue eyes remained focused on him as she asked her questions and she still made no moves to ask him for permission to play outside, which was of course the point of this little talk.

"Rules make me feel better, they tell me and many other people how to behave." Kyle said

Lexi gave him a puzzled look when he told her that rules made him feel better but that caused the figurative wheels in the little girl's head to start turning. "Rules make me feel bad," she told him in a serious voice, nodding her head to further confirm that. "So we shouldn't has 'em." That seemed like a really good way to get out of it to the six year old, Lexi showing that she was a smart little thing with that argument even if her logic was flawed.

"Its an interesting idea but I would feel bad without them and so would every other person I know other than you." kyle said

"Nuh uh," Lexi said with a pout. "Peoples don' needs rules." At least she knew that she didn't and she figured that there had to be other people that felt that way, it couldn't just be her. The little girl continued to pout as she gazed at him, giving him her best pitiful look as she tried to gain some measure of sympathy from him. She had learned that things like that worked on some grown ups and she was trying to see if he was one of them.
