Nightly Lessons Book I: The Book of Beginnings

"I don't baby him, Aleks. You're just jealous because I know how to enjoy myself with them when their small and you know want those 'baby' pictures," Mikeal grinned at him for a moment, knowing Aleks did have a small collection of photos of his different fledglings. True he didn't do the human thing and take constant pictures, but still the intincts of being a parent got the better of everyone. Then Mikeal sobbered and sat down. "Aleks... there's something I didn't tell you in the letter, I thought it best not to... Janus... He had a run with some troublesome humans and thing excalated a bit..."

He noticed Aleks' look of worry and held up a hand.

"He only tasted fresh blood. Nothing more," He sighed and looked towards the hallway. "Caboose and I got to him first before he could do any really harm. That's why he's little right now... it helps you know?"


"Sweet!" Alice laughed at the idea of Aleks playing the drums. "Right... That'll happen when Aleks starts liking my music and Razziel updates his clothing to modern day. A snowflake as a better chance in hell."

She climbed up on to his bed and pulled at her shoeslaces. "Why did they have to be these kinds. Sometimes I swear he does this just to piss me off."

[Peeker]

Aleksandr's face darkened at the question. Yes, he did know. Sara had been a very unhappy child. That... that had been a week Aleksandr would rather have forgotten about.

".......yes." The man downed his blood, suddenly, as though trying to drown out his thought. "But how is Janus taking to your home? Your modernity is almost.. corrupting." Alek joked, "I'm sure that these past few days have been... taxing, no?"


"I think Mas... Lord Razziel would look good with a mohawk." Janus said, laughing. He sat on the bed next to her, feet still bare. "Aw, they're kinda cute." He blushed a little. "Curly.... and of course he does!" Janus was a little more serious, now. "He teases you to make you more patient: they all do it. Mikeal does it, ...Lord Razziel did it..."

The boy looked thoughtful. "I wonder if I should write him a letter..."

"You have no idea," Mikeal grinned with a dramatic sigh. "He acciedently bent the gate twice, letting the puppies out. Poor Caboose spent the day moarning over the lose of the couch, right Caboose?"

The large dog had returned to his usual spot in the living room, taking up as much space as possible. It lifted it's head and woofed softly before lying down again.

"It wasn't his fault but he did blame himself the second time around though." Mikeal stated and looked at the eggs. Well eggs are done. Can you get Alice and Janus while I set the table?"


Alice grabbed Janus pillow and hit him with it.

"Don't call me cute!" She growled with a smile and then mopped a bit. "Well, I wish he would stop. It's annoying as hell. He turned nearly everything in my closet pink first. I hate pink and I hate being little it sucks!"

[Peeker]

Aleksandr gave a heavy ahem... as he stood in the doorframe. Janus straightened, popping off the bed, and blushed, bowing his head slightly.

"Um... Y-yes, Lord Aleksandr?"

"....Alice. You are a guest. Do watch your language..." Aleksandr sighed. "I know you never considered that a bad word, but you know that I certainly do." He looked at the children. "Little ones..." He began, aware that Janus was still being punished. "Its time for breakfast. Come along."

Janus' eyes flickered cold, but, just humbled by Aleksandr's presence, he only took Alice's hand - held it a little tighter than normal, perhaps, and led her to the table.

Aleksandr, meanwhile, was smiling. If a picture of them together was bad, a picture of the two of them, red-bottomed in the same corner... well.. that would be horrible...

"So?" Alice muttered back as shse took Janus' hand, her own mood slightly soured over the fact he called her little. "And I'm not little Aleks!"

Mikeal turned smiling to them all as they entered again, and winced when he saw Janus' brooding eyes and Alice's annoyed scowl. He glanced up at Aleks and gave a sort sigh.

"Grab a seat you guys, breakfast is on." He magiced four cups of blood onto the table and sat down himself. "Eggs and baccon. Janus I know you just eat, but please try and drink the blood, doesn't have to be all at once."

[Peeker]

Janus carefully picked at a piece of bacon. "More blood?" He frowned. The fresh blood made the change in taste even sharper to day. "Oh.... but...." He sighed. "I'll.... I'll try, Mikeal." He said, a little sulky - but willing to obey, at least.

"Thank you very much, Mikeal." Aleksandr said, as he sat. "Once again your hospitality is appreciated." He looked dimly at the man. With Alice in this mood, it was only a matter of time before she roped Janus into a mess...

As though on cue, the horde of puppies and hounds started happily barking - food was on the table, which meant it was time for the animals to see what they could eat.

"So how is your new Sire-hood going, Mikeal?" Aleksandr asked, hoping he could get the man to make Janus recall that he was very-much in a spankable position right now, to keep him from rising to whatever bait Alice would provide. "Is Janus making life any easier?"

The boy finished his slice of bacon, giving his blood a rather unhappy look.

"Thank you Janus. I apperciate that you'll try," He knew that drinking the blood wasn't easy for the boy. He then smiled at Aleks. "It's different. Everyday seems like... a new fence to jump over and boundry to test..." He saw where Aleks was going with this. "I dare say thank you for the paddle you set me. I have yet to test it, but I'm sure with time..."

"You sent him a what?!" Alice gapped as she picked at the food a little and ate some of the eggs. "What the hell, Aleks? Why would Mikeal need that?"

"Alice my dear," Mikeal leaned over before Aleks could react to her, and tapped the girl on the nose. "Just like Aleks, I do not want swearing in my home."

[Peeker]

Janus, who'd been about to sip his blood, balked. He hated that nose flick. His face twisted, but he quickly covered his expression by bringing up the glass to hide his face.

Aleksandr lowered his coffee. "Alice. You have one last chance." He warned. "Not even hell. I mean it. The next bad word out of your mouth, and you're getting it, and getting it good." He sighed. "I sent Mikeal a paddle. I assumed young Janus would prefer it to another cane or strap... call me soft." Aleksandr said, jokingly.

"Yes, Lord...." Janus said, a little bit more quietly, now. It seemed as though the two strong-arming vampires were having an effect on him - it was even hard for him to feel outraged with the two talking as they were. "I... Um... Thank you for it..." He blushed. I was promised I'd get it next time I was bad... He thought, but he didn't say it. "We... I have not yet deserved it, thankfully..."

The boy sipped his blood again, covering his mouth as he swallowed, shivering at the horrid taste. He quickly it into his eggs, rolling them around his mouth to change the taste.

Alice covered her nose with both hands and glared at Mikeal angrily. She had awoken in a grouchy mood and with being shrucked, having imps laugh at her, Aleks forcing her to come here when she told him she didn't want to, and now this... she finally snapped.

"Then stop treating me like I'm some stupid little kid!" She yelled at the two, nearly knocking over her own glass of blood which she had yet to touch.

Caboose and Lucy gave to loud barks as the puppies followed suit. Klonoa gave a tiny growl upon hearing his mistress's angry tone, but backed down when Lucy growled at him.

"Calm down Alice, there's no need to yell," Mikeal frowned as he had grabbed her glass. It wasn't that it was hard to clean up, ut he would rather not have to. "Honestly Alice you're far to touchie this morning..."

"I am not being touchie!" Alice snapped. "I'm annoyed that both you and Aleks are treating me like a freaking kid!"

[Peeker]

"Actually, Alice, if we were treating you like a little kid, you'd be getting spanked right now! Instead, we're trying to reason with you as though you were mature enough to listen and obey!" Alek countered, angrily.

Janus opened his mouth as though he was going to say something, but closed it quickly, looking at Alice, guiltily.
