Nightly Lessons Book I: The Book of Beginnings

[Peeker]

"Sure." Janus said, noncommittally. He was trying (and succeeding) to keep from being annoyed by little phrases like 'pal' and 'buddy'...it was just Mikeal trying to be nice, after all.

"...what kind of lessons?" He sipped at his blood. "...I'm hitting the books, you mean, right?"

[Kira_Wolf_Cub]

Mikeal nodded and called forth three books.

"I was thinking mostly history but some math would be good as well as some magic theroies."

He smiled calmly, happy that Janus was being calm about it.

"I'll help of course."

[Peeker]

"Help?" Janus began to shovel in his oatmeal, liberally drinking a glass of orange juice in between spoonfuls. "Why? Its not going to be... hard, is it?"

The boy couldn't help but be a little suspicious of help. Help usually resulted in some kind of 'drilling' or, if that word could be translated out of the Dornell house, 'whipping' into one's mind to make sure one got it more easily.

Not that he thought Mikeal would hit him.... simply that help and work didn't seem to mesh together too well in his mind.

Mikeal waved his hand to show Janus he had no ill intents about helping.

"Some of the history can be hard to understand due to... a certain past owner drawing in them," Mikeal blushed a little. "And they're old books so the language maybe hard to understand."

Mikeal smiled and then pointed at Janus' glass of blood.

"Don't forget you're blood, Janus."

[Peeker]

"Nice.... Alright, I understand. Razziel pushed me pretty quick, though... I might be further along than you think."

The boy obediently (if not crudely) chugged his blood, and then washed that down with the rest of his orange juice, before belching. "Pardon me." He added, amicably, before carrying his things to the sink.

"Where are we working, anyway?"

"My study of course and please dont chug the blood," Mikeal looked disgusted at the table manners. "Manners Janus."

Mikeal smiled never the less. Janus might be ahead, but Mikeal doubted the boy knew old vampiric english. This could be interesting.

[Peeker]

The boy blushed. "...said I was sorry." He insisted as he picked up his books. "...won't do it again, though. Sorry about that."

He hurried into the study, not actually walking in until Mikeal had (the room wasn't his, after all), and quickly got himself set up in the room. He opened the book.

"..."

Janus rubbed his eyes, and turned the page.

"..." Wait. no... this...

"...what the heck is this? German?" He looked up at Mikeal. "Is this a joke? There's... there's another book, right?"

Mikeal shook his head and looked appologeticly at Janus.

"Sorry Janus," He bent down and sat behind the boy and pulled him up into his lap. "These are the books I had and unfortunatly I don't have an mordern ones."

He picked the book up and looked at the page.

"How had I read it in modern english to you and you summarize what I say? Sound fair?"

[Peeker]

"...that would help..." Janus brought his chair along side Mikeal's, so he could watch the man read. "...but I've got to learn how to translate this, don't I?"

He lifted a pen. ...after writing with a quill for two years, this felt weird. "...I saw the name Bartoc... He's the one from the early dark ages, right? I've already passed that..."

Mikeal smiled and ruffled Janus hair.

"No, you don't have too. The language is almost dead, and what book that were written in it, have been translated. As for Bartoc, true he was part of the dark ages but this isn't the dark ages, Janus. This section is about the tenth revolution where his principles were challenged." Mikeal smiled and began to translate.

~ two hours later ~

Mikeal watched Janus trying to find the best way to summurize. The boy was getting flustered because he couldn't summarize it right.

"Calm down Janus. It's not easy stuff to learn." Mikeal tried to calm the boy. " I have a hard time too."
