Nightly Lessons Book I: The Book of Beginnings

[Peeker]

Proud to see he could still make eggs like a champ, Janus fed both of them well before they hurried off to the nearest electronics store to get in before they closed for the night.

"This one!" Janus said, pointing proudly at the sleek black laptop sitting on the second-highest pedestal on the display. "Its not the top-end model, or anything... that'd cost like, another five-hundred dollars, or somethin'... but its got everything!" The boy grinned, eyes bright at the tag listing its many functions and statistics. "I could do anything with this bad boy! Please Mikeal? Could I get this one?"

...after all, the boy had already, while running down the aisle, pointed out three or four computer games he wanted, and they'd all need a good machine to run them on....

Mikeal looked at the machine and winced at the price. It was pretty expessive, but on the bright side, if Janus didn't behanve, it would be easier to remove from him. Nodding, Mikeal agreed to buy him it along with the games and a travelers bag.

"I hope you like it Janus," Mikeal huffed as he carried the three times bigger then the lap top box along with Janus' books. They had both laughed at how the book store was a lot like something out of Harry Potter, hidden with magic. "Just for the record... if you're studies suffer because of this time. It's going bye bye."

He smiled though as he spotted the park and a small ice cream store nearby.

"You want a snack and a swing ride?"

"A swing ride?" Janus lifted an eyebrow at the man, looking a little disgusted - well, not disgusted, but surprised. "Um... Mikeal... I'm not eight anymore, remember?" He looked at the man. "...I can carry some of that for you. Really." He reached for the bag of books on top of the box, and pulled them off the man's load, huffing in surprise at their weight, but slinging them all up and over his shoulder.

Luckily, he wasn't upset by the swing-offer, even though he didn't intend to agree to it... the ice-cream, on the other hand... "Um... I guess I could go for a cone, though..." He grinned, and hefted the bag a little more. "...and if you want me to push you on the swings..." He grinned evilly, teasing the older vampire. "I guess after buyin' this for me, its the least I can do..."

He grinned, and stepped quickly away from Mikeal, lest he try and poke or tickle or something him...

"Ohhh... I will get you back for that!" Mikeal laughed at walked over to the venter. A pretty little thing that screamed 'Ginny Weasley grown up' greated them with ehr own boyfriend at her side. "Two cones please. One strawberry and one..."

He looked at Janus for his order.

"Chocolate mint please."

The girl smiled and quickly fixed them in and smiled at Janus.

"Out on the night with a friend?" She asked only to see Mikeal grin at the her. "You his brother?"

"Father really," Mikeal juggled the box over so that he could take the icecream. "Thank you."

They payed and left, sitting in the empty park and ate their ice cream.

"You know last time I had ice cream was with Alice and Aleks," Mikeal grinned. "Whatever you do, don't get in an ice cream eatting contest with her. I swear the girl doesn't get in brain freeze."

Janus blushed, and nodded. "...gotcha, I'll remember that..."

The two sat for a moment in the quiet, enjoying their ice-creams.

"You know what? ...its sort of weird... I... I was just kind of thinking of you as 'Mikeal'..." The boy smiled a little. "...you just... you aren't old enough to be Lord Aleksandr, or Razziel... you're so much younger than them, you know? ...and you act it, too... I..." He grinned sheepishly, and dropped what he was saying, going back to his cone.

"...I just never thought of you as... a dad..." He shrugged. "...like... a brother an' all... yah! Definitely... but.. I dunno... I know you wanted me to call Razziel my grandsire... but... I feel like he's still... he's still your sire, and mine..." Janus poked the bag of books with his foot, relieved that he had something he could read, now.

"Um... No offense, or anything, Mikeal... Just... Just trying to be honest with you..."

Mikeal grinned and ruffled Janus' hair a bit.

"No, it's alright... not everyone gets a family feeling between their sires. I didn't and I'm sure Dimitrius and Aleksandr were more of a partnership then family at first. You're entittled to your oppinion Janus and if you would rather tell humans I'm your brother, then it's fine," Mikeal took a big bite of his icecream. "It's semi true anyways."

[Peeker]

Janus bobbed his head thankfully. The impulse to hug the man surfaced, and faded. That was one good thing about being back to normal - he didn't feel as clingy. He had to consider his image, now... and didn't want to encourage that touchy-needy-lovey stuff that Alice could still get away with with Aleksandr, since... they'd been together so long... they might be a family, already... Mikeal and Janus weren't quite yet... and both knew it.

He still smiled and blushed whenever the man ruffled his hair though... still felt special, felt loved, when he did it. He looked up at him with thankful golden eyes, and softly punched him in the arm. "Thanks." His cheeks pinkened a little. "...big brother." He grinned, and shook his head.

"Patricia would have thought you were cute." He said, the smile getting a little sad, but staying there, for sure.

"Nah... she would think I was cute for five minutes until I'd either do something very stupid," Mikeal laughed as he licked the ice cream a bit more. "That or you and your dad would bury me somewhere in a desert to protect her honor. Aleks once threatened to send me to the North Pole when I tried to patch things up with Gabby before Razziel scarred her."

Mikeal looked at Janus and without warning reached over and pinched both of his cheeks into a smile.

"Hey! You've been grounded for a week as an eight year old and finally back to normal!" he jokingly smiled at the boy. "Smile. Tonight isn't a night to be gloomy on."

[Peeker]

"Hey!" Janus laughed. "I know, I know..." He made sure his ice cream didn't flop off the cone while pushing away Mikeal's hands, smiling back. "I just..." He stopped to take a lick himself. "I still miss them, y'know? ...but she'd probably think you were immature..." He looked brightly at the older vampire. "...especially if you called her Patty. She hated that."

Janus shifted on the bench, standing up on it, and sitting down on the back of it instead. The bench creaked softly, and handled the weight without a problem.

"...are we... are we doing something tonight? I mean... not my studies?" He gave a puzzled look... still firmly in Razziel mode, where he'd worked all week, with an extra hour to sleep on Sunday, and not much else in the form of a break, he was used to working more than he had this week, and now that he was fully-formed and actually able to work, he wasn't sure if Mikeal planned on it or not.

Mikeal smiled at him and nodded.

"Mustly it's up to you, it's you first day back to normal," He leaned back. "You're finally allowed outside after a week so if you want to do something tonight we can. You still have lessons which should be easier for you now that you have your own books in eglish, and we'll do some fencing on the roof since no one goes up there... otherwise you can practic the violin or your guitar..."

Mikeal ate the lest of his cone and licked his fingers. He thought for a moment an then grinned while looking at the boy.

"... in fact... you can help me wash and walk the dogs. Lord knows they need it, espcially the pups."
