The boy sighed as he was assaulted on various fronts: the oil, Mikeal's instructions, information, and warning to write Alice - which he certainly had done, he'd just forgotten to send it... oops. That was why Alice hadn't written back yet...
Oh, and that stupid thing with the medicine. Dammit.
It was going to be a long day.
**
A long shower, a quick change, and a few minutes later, Janus was plopped on the couch - in sweatpants and socks, as he'd been asked, a game controller in his hand.
...he had to take the medicine in a few minutes. ...if he remembered.
The boy decided to be very very focused on his game for a while.

Lucky and Caboose sat happily up against Janus, nuzzling him fondly as he played, although Caboose was clearly trying to get Lucy's attention. After all, now all the puppies were gone...
But Lucy wasn't having any of it today. Her attention was on keeping Janus comfortable along with praising lightly her mate for his bravory towards Razziel's visit. His tooth would grow back in soon. It wasn't the first time he had lost it.
Lucy had just carried a third package of blood over to the bin when she noted the time. She remembered her master's order and trotted over to bump the controller in Janus' hands.
*Woof!*

Janus made sure to keep the controller far and away from Lucy while he continued to play. ...blasted dog had remembered the time. "Down, girl!"
...the boy felt a guilty twinge. He didn't want to let Mikeal down... he really didn't want to be force-fed the medicine... and he didn't want to be sick. The stuff just tasted awful.
Awwwful.
...yet he knew he was going to take the stuff. ...which gave him an idea, actually.
It wasn't that he minded taking the stuff: just the taste. ...so maybe.. was there a way to change the taste?
A project now in mind - one that would probably take up some precious gaming time - the boy dutifully went into the kitchen and took his medicine - it was even worse, this time - and gagged and freaked out about it for a while.
...the moment his fifteen minutes were up, the boy was drinking his soda, swishing it about to kill the taste. He gave a mighty burp and went back to his game... long enough to turn it off.
...and then he headed for Mikeal's study, to see if there was some kind of spell that would change the taste of the medicine.

Lucy trotted after the boy, watching him closely like a hawk, although she woofed happily when she saw him take the medicine like the good boy he was. She nuzzled against him, nipping Camboose whenever he tried to push her towards the puppy pen area for some one-on-one time with her, and licking Janus' hand as if to praise him.
Still, she growled lightly under her breath as Janus went into Mikeal's study and folowed, not understanding why the boy felt a need to go in there.

The boy had two-and-a-half hours until Mikeal showed up. He could spend an hour without issue. He'd look around for a spell, test it on something to drink, or such... and then use it on the medicine. ...and everything would be just dandy.
About ten minutes later, the boy opened another unlikely book, having shooed Lucy off (much to the result of another twinge of guilt from him) with a quick levitation spell. ...unfortunately, magic has some strange effects in the libraries of vampires - and unwanted magic often led to the opening of unwanted books. The boy turned the page, and his eyes widened.

Lucy made several whimpers mixed with grows noises behind Janus. She wasn't a fan on Mikeal's study, the scent of magic was always strong in that room and it left her uncomfortable. Getting one's back set on fire was usually an unplesant exsperience. However when Janus picked up a certain book that she knew what pretty dangerous since it had burned nearly all the skin off Mikeal's arm one time, Lucy began growly loudly baring her teeth.
*GRRRRRRR! ARF! BARK! BARK! WOOF! GRRRRRRR!*
Her distressed barks camed Caboose over, the larger and braver hound came rushing over and let out his own growl at the fledgling. He knew the book as well, and the burn Mikela had gotten from it, had taken a day to heal. When they saw Janus wasn't putting the book down, Caboose did the only thing he could think of and leapt forward, sinking his teeth deep into the leather bindings and taring the book from the child's grasp.

Janus saw a flicker of light which suddenly cut off, like the noise on a television when you hit mute, as 'Boose clamped his mouth around the book and tugged. The kid's heart started to race. Why had he thought that was a good idea?! Vampire libraries were dangerous! Sure, he'd been careful - or he'd been trying to be careful... but... jeez.
What was I thinking?!
The boy was quickly hurried out of the room by the hounds, and was happy to be so. No one had gotten hurt. Everyone was okay. It was all okay. Caboose had probably saved him from whatever that book did... he'd felt heat and something ...and it was probably a very good thing Caboose had stopped him.
Janus spent the next fifteen minutes walking nervously around the apartment, rather zombie-like. He took his next dose of medicine, tasting it all the more acutely from the adrenaline. He tried to play video games, and could barely pick up the controller. Tried to watch television, and flipped through all the channels four or five times - and then took his medicine again. ...tried his guitar... couldn't even think about it, really. He played one sour note, and dropped it, disgusted.
So he went to bed, as Mikeal had instructed him, after softly asking Lucy to wake him for his medicine. Two doses later, he still hadn't fallen asleep.
...which was why Janus took a kitchen chair, and put it against the corner, facing the wall and the puppy pen, and sat down in it, waiting for Mikeal to come home, feeling like something had surgically removed his heart, and replaced it with a scoop of wet, cold, squishy, guilt.

By the time Mikeal came back home and stepped through the threshold of his doorway, he knew something was wrong. Just what, he wasn't sure. However the sight of any fledgling, no matter their age, sitting in the corner never meant anything good.
"I'm home." He said, as he was greeted by Lucy and Caboose, both wagging their tails and licking his up turned hands.
He had guessed right that the Hourses had wanted him to stay for a while longer after bringing the pups to them, but at the same time he had told each of them that he had a sick brother back home that needed to be taken care of. Stepping forward, Mikeal
placed a soft hand on Janus' shoulder.
"Hey buddy, you okay?" He asked. "What's all of this about?"

"I need you to make me bigger." The still preternaturally small child said, to the corner. He'd been rehearsing these sentences for the past two doses. His voice didn't even shake. His eyes were hard, his voice a little chilling. "I went into your library looking for a spell to change the taste of the medicine and Caboose saved my life. I need you to make me bigger. If you put me over your lap I'm only g-going to get angrier..." The boy lowered his head - his eyes were soft now, squeezed shut. His forehead pressed hard against the corner, which he had bent into so far that even his shoulders brushed the walls, now.
"I-I-I'm s-so- sorry." That last word wasn't stuttered - it came out crisply again. He'd had a half-hour to stew: he wasn't so shaken that he couldn't speak anymore: he was determined to get what was coming to him.
The belt, the strap, the whip, the cane... he'd almost died. All he could think about was how Mikeal's face should look right now... how disappointed he should be.
He needed to be bigger, and he needed to face this.

Mikeal blinked and pulled Janus over against his side for a hug with a sigh. He had to admit he was a little disappointed that Janus would do that. The boy knew better then to mess about in a vampires study, although he could easily understand the boy wanting to change the taste of medicine. After all, he had wanted to as well.
Too bad that one could mess with it otherwise it wouldn't work right.
"Janus, I'm gonig to be honest. I'm a little disappointed in you," Mikeal started scolding lightly. "But I'm glade you admitted it to me instead of lying about it. Still, the books I have are very dangerous, and just like Aleksandr, I can't treat this lightly..."
He sighed. He didn't want to spank the boy too much since he was still sick but he knew he had to be stern.
"Janus I would like for you to go get the brush for me and then come tot he livingroom, right?" He patted the boy's head softly and gently released his hold on him. "There's a good boy."
