April, despite the punishment that she had administered him a few minutes before, reached his head with an hand while stepping on the stairs, on their way to the dining room, trying to mess his hair a bit, in a certain sweet way -I hope that you will not make me do anything like this again in the future, kiddo. I really don't want to. Ok?- she whispered to him, a moment before reaching the dining room. After that, she separated from him, letting the boy to join the others teens in the hall and walking toward the teacher's table.
Logan's words didn't surprised her at all, that's must be said, but she shook her head a little from side to side -No, i didn't. If that child will remember this lesson, maybe i don't have to repeat myself in the future. I'm not cruel, you know me. But he need a reminder and this will do.-

Wilson gave her a small smile and went towards the students table. He was about to sit down, when he remembered what MS. Crosswell said; so he simply stayed up, putting a slice of bread and some soup into his plate.

He felt incredibly tired, and not at all hungry. So he simply started to play with his food a bit, stirring it with the spoon.

The other boys and girls just exchange a few knowing looks, and started eating, chatting about daily routine.

Logan sighed.

"At least tell him that he can sit down. He'll remember the lesson even without getting cramps in his legs."

She nodded to Logan.
-I will, in a few minutes.- answered him, giving the man a little smile -I'm not an heartless monster, i'm just trying to teach him a lesson. We tried to talk some sense into him since he arrived, you know that. Now he knows that when i say that i'm serious about something, i mean it.- April explained, sitting down on her chair, next to Storm and stretching her hand to reach a slice of bread -It's not a big deal, anyway. He's not the first who gained himself a sore bottom. Tomorrow the other kids will have forgot and maybe he will start talking with someone, since now they surely have something in common.-

Ororo said nonchalantly. She had always been against this kind of punishment: it was violent, shameful, and it went against everything that they were trying to teach the kids.

"I'm afraid he'll be more isolated. Teenagers don't usually bond because they received a common punishment. Wilson is a very solitary boy, nice, educated...his only flaw, if we can call it that, is to daydream a bit too much. Since his arrival none of the kids approached him, or even asked what his mutant power was. I seriously doubt that a spanking will help him to fit in."

Logan simply took a sip of his beer.

"Not this again..." He whispered to Hank McCoy.

-And don't you wonder why is that so?- April turned her face towards Ororo -It's not easy to bond with someone who don't want to. Wilson is always on his own, he didn't made any effort to make friends, just walking around all alone and skipping classes. And on top of that, how many times did he escaped from the school? How many times did he traveled to the city without us knowing were he was? It's dangerous.- she continued -Let's face it. We have been very lenient with him. We tried to talk to him, we grounded him and still he continued to cross the gates, doing what he wants, you can't deny that. What we were supposed to do? Just letting him wandering around? Any other student would have been already punished more then once. I have been patient long enough.- she ended -How we should deal with this kind of careless behavior, in your opinion? You tell me.-

"How about talking? Not scolding, or grounding. Just talking to a student and explain him or her why they shouldn't do certain things. You usually punish them straight away, without first thinking about the reasons why they misbehave; the first thing we tell the students is that nothing can be solved with violence. Then you arrived, introducing corporal punishments inside the mansion. We are not their parents: we do not have the right to do this. Besides, I always used other kinds of punishments, such as washing the Blackbird, cutting the grass in the garden, or any kind of chore. They never disobeyed me after that."

Storm concluded drinking some water.

-You think I didn't do that? I don't beat children for fun, you know? What kind of monster you think I am? You don't know me at all, but luckily Charles do. It's pretty clear that you don't like me, seems like you think that i'm ruthless. But i'm not. I just want those kids to be safe, in here.- April gave Ororo a stern gaze -I've been in a cage during years, like an animal. I know what can happen out there to youngsters who don't pay attention. They must be prepared to face the world and sometimes words are just not enough.- she added, with some kind of sorrow in her voice.
But a second later, when the other woman started speaking of the student's parents, April couldn't repress a sarcastic grin -Most of them are here because their beloved parents doesn't want them at home, you shouldn't forget this. So if i have to play the bad teacher to be scared of while you will do the good one, so be it. I can live with that.-

"Alright enough of that."

Logan interrupted the two and stood up.

"No one is forced to spank the kids: if you and Hank are against it, that's fine 'Ro. You have your own methods, and luckily they work. But me and April have different opinions about it."

Then he turned towards April.

"April. Ororo never said that you're a monster. No one did. But someday, those kids are going to get out of here, and into the world, wheter they're ready or not. It doesn't matter how many times you spank their butts, we can't change them completely.
Besides, some of them abandoned the school as soon as they knew about the spankings. That's why before punish a student, you should think which punishment would fit the most. Do not be too severe, or you'll lose the kids' trust, and only gain hate and fear. Remember."

After that he sat down, and kept on eating.

"Now stop with your squabbling and let us eat in peace."

April took a couple of bites from her slice of bread, while listening Logan answering to Storm, but when he turned on her, the woman looked at him, a fierce expression suddenly appearing on her face - You all should stop presuming that you know exactly how i deal with the students, because you don't. I do talk with them first. I always try to make them understand what the problem is, way before punishing them. I don't spank them for everything, every five minutes like you seem to think, Ororo.- she said, annoyed -Anyway, like i don't discuss your methods, it would be great if you can do the same with mine. Thank you.- after that, April stood up, putting down the bread and her fork, pushing away her chair from the table, giving Logan a disapproving look. Clearly she hadn't liked his last sentence -Sure. Enjoy your meal, darling. I wont be bothering you anymore, for today.-
Without any other word she walked away, toward the door, just stopping a second in proximity of Wilson to say -You may sit down now, if you want. I will be expecting you tomorrow morning in class, kiddo.-

Ororo simply rolled her eyes.

"Well, now I'm sure she exactly knows what a child thinks...since she behaves like one."

Logan sighed. He didn't want to offend her, just to make things clear.
He was tired to hear her fight with anyone else at the mansion every goddamn day. Except with Charles, of course; yeah, they knew each other sooo well, that they never had a verbal or physical fight.

Logan felt a streak of jealousy rising inside him: most of the times, everything he received in exchange of his attentions towards her, was her aggression. With Charles... She barely raises her voice.
He felt bitter, but simply kept eating and then went outside the Institute, hoping that a ride would've calmed his nerves.

Wilson smiled a little when she gave him permission to sit down, but by then he had already finished his dinner.

"Thanks, but I think I'll go to bed now."

He said following her out of the room. He thought that he could bare the jokes and the smirks around him, and even the whispering voices of the other students...he was wrong. It was exactly like staying below a spotlight, and he hated that feeling.
