IC: "You're beautiful," Justin said. It was a clumsy first strike, but at least it was out there. He didn't say it in his usual confident way. He said it the way a scared boy admits the truth. He finally managed to bring himself to eye contact with her.
Mrs. Brisby blushed. She had suspected he liked her, and she knew she liked him, but that was forward. "Th-Thank you," she stuttered.
"Listen, Mrs. Brisby, I... I know you're lonely, and... I'm not the kind of man to rob graves. Jonathan was my best of friends, but I... I care about you now more than anything," Justin said.
"I... I care about you too, Justin..." she replied. She scooted closer to him then. She didn't like being alone, and Justin was alone as well. In that moment, she sensed why she cared about him. "How... how long have you waited to admit that?" he asked, maybe to forwardly.
"Since we first met," she said. "And you?"
"The same," he said. "I love you..." he said, but his words hung on a pause. "You know... all this time I've called you Mrs. Brisby, being formal, but I must ask, what is your first name?"
"Teresa," she said. "My oldest daughter is named after me. And I love you too Justin," she said, getting up. "I'm glad... I'm glad you're here, and that I'm here to." She walked inside, needing to sleep. He watched her go and suddenly, as soon as she was out of sight, he let his guard down and stood up, looking into the air with a greatly pleased sigh. His smile was broader than it was usually, even though he often smiled.
He looked up at the stars then, searching for the Twins, Jonathan's favorite constellation of stars. "Jonathan, It's... It's alright... Isn't it?"
And so, the night claimed the sun, and the moon road it's course, and the dawn returned the morning star to its throne in the east...
