I'd like to see more development of the idea, but yeah, I'm interested. :D

As much as I like freehaven (which is a truck load) nobody plays it anymore. T_T
What this needs is more pizzaz. Simple things could make it better. Lets throw in (hypethetically) some elves and half-demons, create some spanking oriented boss monsters, and make the city like something out of lord of the rings with a nearby forest (you neglected to mention the cities design which leaves little to the imagination). Throw in a couple of knight classes and you've officially made it sound more interesting, in theory. This is all hypethetical of course. ^^

Heroes is flourishing as is, and is still a work in progress.
Erewhon is revived.
Free Haven is dead.
House is dead.
Marin Basin without Mina is dead.
I was wanting to invigorate the fantasy genre without the dependency upon our local celebrity Demoness.
@Xam, the idea is still in utero. The idea behind this thread is to encourage talk and contribution on a major scale. I feel that adding classes and such would be a detriment, but am working on downplaying the military aspect.

You said fantasy RP free of the Forest... I was pretty excited.... Then you immediately chained it to something else.
Just gimme a fantasy tavern and no-limits freeform RP.

Options for the new Fantasy RP.
So, after talking, and talking, and seeing what the detractors thought of, versus the actual proposal, I have decided to forgo and retool the original idea. So, I give choices:
A) Occidental Fantasy Setting: City on the Hill, Elandria
Within a minor province, lies a valley, and if one looks hard enough, they will see a small fort-city that is located on a hill a few days from a major city, and within a days walk from a port town. To the North is a Forest built much in the same way a labyrinth; to the West, a Mountain pass; to the East, Port Kraken watches over the Ocean, and to the South, monstrous territory writhe with internal rivalry. It is protected by a local Knight Company, and is relatively self-sufficient as a functioning body.
The players in this case are either actual citizens running the various shops, members of the mercenary group: the Riesgard, or any of various traveling archetypes. Races: Standard fantasy.
B) Oriental Setting: Akamanji
In the Far East is the state of Akamanji, protected by a benevolent Lord and the Samurai. The city is small in size, built next to a running river, and next to a mountain, where near the summit, a relatively famous Shrine is built to appease the Heavens, bless travelers, and keep a watchful eye upon the threats to the village.
The players assume the role of the samurai (and other 'types' servants a la ninja), the villagers, and priests of the city, as well as the various people who would come to perhaps see the mountain, work, or seek to serve the Lord of Akamanji.
If anyone else has a real proposal, please post it.

Welcome to the world of Din. Why is this world called Din, you ask? Well, considering it is populated by all manner of creatures (dragons, orcs, elves, humans, etc), Din can be a very noisy and bustling place. To narrow things down a bit, welcome to the city of Port McKinsley.
Set on the eastern coast of one of the larger continents, Port McKinsley is a major trade hub - and therefor, all manner of creatures and businesses can be found within. The city is built on the inside of a massive crater, half of which is submerged by the sea. The seaside walls of the crater are still there, just fragmented. They rise out of the sea in a half-circle around the port like teeth, providing an very effective natural barrier and wave breakers.
The land side of the port is a natural barrier as well, formed by the sides of the crater. Passage in and out is done via several passes. On the other side of the crater is a massive forest, home to some of the more interesting tribes of elves, and well as many creatures one would expect to find in a forest. The elves keep the roads clear of bandits and the mroe dangerous creatures, but trespassers into their territory seldom repeat the offense.
Surounding the forest is a series of plans, turning into rolling hills to the south, and a mountain range to the north.
I'll add more as I think of it.

A small village nestled in the mountains has existed as far back as its residents can remember. Barring the occasional traveler or merchant, it has endured in isolation, sustained by local artisans, hunters, and farmers. The most traffic the people see is the coming and going of initiates on their way to the nearby monastery. Above the clouds on an ever-snowcapped peak, it is said to be built above a powerful ley-line, and home to skilled wielders of magic.
Last night, all of this was lost. A raiding party of bandits overran the town, burning, looting, and indiscriminately killing anyone in their path. Screams filled the air, punctuated by the crackle of timbers set aflame. The orange glare. The acrid stench of soot mingled with blood. It was a night of terror unrivaled in their history.
As the sun peeks over the horizon, a haze of smoke lies low over the ruined buildings. The raiders have gone, leaving destruction, and loss in their wake. Those who have survived, by hiding, or pure dumb luck, crawl out from the rubble. What they make of the grim future is up to them.

With the idea of combat, boss-monsters, etc. etc., I fail to see how that remains germane to the site. I mean, we're not running a D&D campaign, here.

No boss monsters.
Combat for now is suppressed discussion until a setting that provides cohesion and unity is created: that is to say, what we are presently discussing.
