An Orphan's New Guardian (for marianna)

William hadn't expected anyone to really talk to him just a couple of minutes ago, and someone bringing him back to their apartment didn't even cross his mind. Jack's apartment was surprisingly warm, which was nice as he was quite cold from being outside this late without any proper clothes to keep him warm.
As he slid off Jack's back and sat down on the couch, he looked up at him; "Thank you Jack" the young eight year old said with a soft smile, before adding; "Should I shower straight away or?.." he asked a bit nervously, as he had never been in a situation like this before and had no idea how to react. He figured being polite and not too pushy was the best.

"Go on and wash up first, little guy. Your food will be ready by then."

"O-Okay, sure" Will replied with a soft smile spanning across his face as he walked into the bathroom, which he had seen on the way into the apartment. He stepped inside and was about to start undressing, until he saw the shower knob. It was nothing like he was used to, it had two separate dials and all on it, much different from the simple push of a button shower he had been used to at his orphanage. "Uhm.. J-Jack? Could you help me turn the shower on?" he asked as he stuck his head out the bathroom door.

Jack, who was throwing some precooked, frozen ingredients for stir fry into a skillet, called back, "Turn both dials to the left, little guy. That will make the water warm." He didn't believe in encouraging too much helplessness or dependency in those he cared about, which meant that he wasn't going to go and turn the shower on for a big boy of eight years old.

“O-Okay, thank you!..” Will replied as he went back into the bathroom and closed the door, before stripping himself of all his clothes. He stepped into the shower and turned the dials, making the water run. He almost screamed at the cold water to begin with, but it soon got warmer. After about ten minutes, he finished showering and stepped out, only to realise that he didn’t have a towel. He stepped out and opened the door a little, just enough to stick his head out. “Uhm.. do you have a towel that I could use by any chance?..”

"Run across the ball into my room and get one. Then put on a any shirt you want and come on and eat."

William made sure Jack wasn’t in sight before he made a run for it, as he didn’t want him to see him naked. He grabbed a towel and dried himself off, as he was told, before grabbing a white tshirt and putting it on. Naturally, it was way too large and almost went down to his knees. He hung the towel up over the shower cabinet before walking over to the kitchen. “W-What about underwear Jack?..” he asked with a light blush spanning across his petite face.

Jack seated him. "Sorry, but I dont know what to say about underwear right now, little guy." He passed him a plate of stir fry and brown rice. "But we can worry about that after we figure out what we're doing next. For the moment, just focus on eating. I'm not going to be staring at your butt."

William blushed at the comment, but knew his butt wasn’t visible thanks to the long tshirt, only his legs were on display, luckily. “Thanks Jack..” he said as he quickly started eating. It wasn’t anything special, but to a starving boy, it was like heaven on Earth. He ate like he hadn’t eaten in years, not bothering with manners at all.

Jack refilled the plate several times and kept a steady supply of milk and water coming. Poor little one. He'd really had a rough time of it. But he didnt intend to question him till he'd eaten his fill.
