Padawan Perils (For Mr AZ)

“As I understand it, my former master had a lot to answer for when the Council learned that he trained an apprentice without approval from them. I haven't seen him since then, but I believe that he still holds his station, but is positioned on a Fringe world.”


Eldton steps away from Alden as Ilena moves to assist her master into the diner. As he walks along, he glances back at his own padawan, pulling her up close to his side as he moves into the diner.


“There are trillions of intelligent beings in the known galaxy, and only the smallest fraction of them are Jedi. Would you suggest that only that tiny percentage has any real meaning to their life? There is more to life than being one with the Force, Roni.”

Master Alden keeps walking, raising another eyebrow at the youngster that walks behind them, but lets the younger Master take care of that. "Typical of the Council" He says to Eldton as he walks in the place with his padawan, nodding to one of the waitresses, who, once they are joined by Master Bro and Roni, accommodate them on one of the four seat tables near the massive window.

Roni was following behind Ilena, being the last of the group, and it came as unexpected when her Master pulled her close to his side, her gaze lowers more, thinking that maybe she should have not given her opinion about that. But if the kid was born as a Force sensitive she had to be in the academy... else she would be taken by the darkness, by the Sith, and if she wasn't in the temple then what good came for her of being a Force sensitive? Ilena had mention it before, right? They would only had a better... better what? Fate? Destiny? Possibilities?

They would have that.

She gulps at her Master words, not knowing how to answer to them since she doesn't understand them completely, not seeing much more than that right now, due her age, due who has raised her.

"I...I'm sorry sir" She whispers then, trying to make some sense of that and then just taking them, guessing they are to be taken like that.

“In other words, Roni, just because someone is sensitive to the Force isn't supposed to mean that they have no purpose in life other than to hone those skills. Force-sensitives are regularly missed on the Fringe worlds, growing up to adulthood without ever knowing of their abilities, and they're perfectly happy with it. That's why the Order has to get parental consent in order to bring a child to the temple. If the parents believe that the child should stay at home, then that's they're decision.”


Eldton slides into the seats across from Alden, allowing the two padawans to also sit across from each other, while also next to their masters. Ilena slides in next to Alden, already thinking about what she's going to order. She's still considering the discussion about Wari, but knows that it can be a difficult topic to bring up. She's glad that their masters appear to largely be in agreement over the idea, though maybe not completely on the same page. She isn't certain why Roni seems to disagree, though.

Roni looked at her Master as he spoke, yes, she knew that happened, but wasn't it better if they could be useful for something, like the Order? They could be happy or think so, but they never gave a use to their power, so that was a waste, wasn't it? They needed the padawans to form part of either the Jedi, or even of the Corps, and what if, with the Sith coming back, they began to recruit the other kids too. That would be worse for everyone, overall for those who didn’t got recruited by the Jedi, they would become a danger, for themselves and the others, wouldn’t they? She had heard about Siths maybe recruiting Force sensitive since kids from overhearing some of the Masters (The kid was extremely quiet, when she was a younger child she often got forgotten about by the other Masters, often when in penitence, and they talked freely, not minding her, not that she really learned much about that, but knew some things).

She doesn’t really believe that the parents should decide that, maybe they should just let the Jedi take their kids, knowing it’s for a good cause, for something better than just growing up normally, shouldn’t they? Still, her Master’s words are about what is going on now, there’s no space for any discussion so she just nods quietly, accepting his words as they come.


"Y...yes, sir"


Alden smiles at Ilena, knowing that she might be a bit confused right now, still he sees no much discussion about the subject, not here at least.



A waitress come and gives them the menu, the old Master noting how the younger padawan keeps quiet, he finds it a bit strange but maybe that’s how the kid is trained, he just focuses on the menu then, not seeing that much on the discussion.

“What overly spicy thing will you order this time, my padawan?” He asks calmly.

Ilena quickly glances over the menu, noticing the specials. Since her own master is treating the group, she doesn't want to cost him an arm and a leg. Plus, the soup of the day catches her eye, as it should satisfy her taste for spicy dishes.


“Maybe a bowl of Gargon gumbo with Iktotchian gravelwheat bread? What do you think, Master?”


Eldton takes a look at the menu, as well, but soon gives up and tosses it down on the table in frustration.


“Roni, you just go ahead and order for both of us. I can't make heads or tails of this menu. The problem with so many worlds being in the Republic is that there's no way to keep track of the millions of local delicacies. It's like memorizing the entire programming code for the Holonet system.”

"No Shili dogs this time?" The Master asks to his padawan with a smile, knowing by heart her usual selections and her usual crave for spicy food, which at first worried him a bit, but then, seeing that she was not harmed by them, he let her be. "The soup is good enough, if I remember correctly, so if that's your pick feel free to order" He tells her with a nod as he glances at the menu which is then interrupted by the soft sound of a menu being tossed to the table.

Eldton's comment makes him grin, old memories returning to him. "That's true, my old Master used to tell me that he had that problem, when he told me his solution to it I tried it right away, but he had said it as a way to let me know that it wasn’t a big deal and he didn’t tell me that his “solution” had been a failing experiment, he had tried to order anything that came as interesting on the menu, he got sick when he was young, and me, following his doings, got sick too” He said looking to the menu again. “In any case, here I’d recommend you either the Opee sea killer fillet or the Rokarian dirt-fish fillet, nerf steak is always good too” He comments casually, the Master isn’t rich, he’s a Jedi and no Jedi is rich, well, with some exceptions, but he usually saves correctly so this invitation doesn’t really has him worried about money and is looking forward to do this as a sign of gratitude.

Roni had been reading the menu wondering what to eat, she looked at the usual choices, the Cream of fleek eel soup catching her eye, but upon reading the description she discarded the idea, she would eat anything but usually preferred her food, well, not moving, she wondered about the beast-yeast but at the end she ended up looking at the Specials of the day, there were three soups, one spicy, which would be what Ilena ordered, the other seemed pretty normal, aurebesh soup, and the other had cheese of some kind, ranat's cheese soup, there were also two plates of the day, being cheaper than usually, a molecularly agitated cheese sandwich and denuba sandwich, each with complements and a small soup serving, she would choose one of them better, she wasn’t that hungry, which was really weird, usually after training she was starving… weird, she was pondering on that when she heard something being tossed to the table, she looked up, kind of wary of what was going on when she heard her Master, she was about to mutter an affirmation to the order when the older Master spoke, she kept quiet then, not sure if her Master still wanted her to do so or if he would take the old Master’s suggestions.

“I guess I could try that fillet. Dirt-fish sounds like something that Master Yoda would eat. I guess something with 'killer' in the name has to be a good sign. Predators make the best meat products. Anything with meat is good, though. If nothing else, they can bring me the flesh of any domesticated farm animal.”


Eldton seems to accept the advice, freeing Roni from the responsibility to order for him. Meanwhile, Ilena orders the Gargon gumbo, though Eldton's talk almost makes her change her mind. The master's comment about dirt-fish reminds her of Master Yoda's bottom-feeder gumbo, and she isn't sure if she wants to associate one gumbo with the other. She hopes that the spice in the Gargon gumbo will get that idea out of her head.

"It's more to each's tastes, thought the Opee sea killer is quite good, it's an hybrid between crustacean and fish and it's served with the seasoning this place is famous for" He commented before turning to the waitress and ordering for himself then letting the others do the same.

Roni looks at both Master and then at Ilena, wondering if anything with "gumbo" at the end of it would be a good idea but shrugging it off and ordering her cheese sandwich. She looks mostly down then wondering about some things, yet their food is brought back quickly enough.

The Gargon gumbo looks mostly ok, even if reddish and with some protatoes here and there, it smelt nice, warm and spicy, quite spicy, the other padawan is served her sandwich and her small serving of soup, which was at random of any soup that was around when they served it, in this case aurebesh soup, the kid waited for the rest to start eating and then did it herself, half glancing to Ilena to see if the gumbo was good or was just something as bad as Master Yoda's.

Ilena digs right into her spicy gumbo dish after a moment of hesitation, but she finds it quite to her liking after only a couple of bites. Winking at Roni, she holds up a thumb to signify that she approves of the taste. After a few more bites, she wipes her mouth with a napkin before speaking to her friend.


“Now, this is what gumbo should taste like. How's yours, Roni?”


Eldton is less enthusiastic about his meal, though he would have to admit that the sea killer is quite tasty, especially with a little bantha butter melted on it. As long as it doesn't come with a warning saying that it's not fit for human consumption, though, he's not too particular. There are times when he has a very refined taste, though, but that's only when he's paying for his own meal. Otherwise, he's apt to eat whatever is available.


“Not bad. It has just enough spice in it to make it really good.”

Roni smiled a bit to Ilena, glad that her experience with Master Yoda's favorite dish had not been repeated, she could see Ilena had liked her plate due the way she ate it with such enthusiasm, she turned her attention to her half eaten cheese sandwich and the randomly picked soup they had given her, it was aurebesh soup, it tasted like topato and had some tropatoes slices.

"It's good" She muttered while looking at her before returning to her food, it was a bit spicy, which let her know that it had been served with the same spoon that Ilena's, maybe the why of the tropato being there, still it wasn't spicy enough as to be uneatable. It wasn't bad, and she wasn't that hungry so it was good, the sandwich was good enough too.

She glanced at her Master speaking and wondered what did he usually ate apart of that lobster like-thing or meat, well, it was not of her concern, she guessed, the runt-ish kid glanced at her clock too, it was early enough, her class didn't start in another 2 hours so it was well enough, not long later she was done.

"Glad it was to yours taste" The old Master commented nodding, "The seasoning is good enough for me but that again is question of tastes"
