Pokemon: Champion and Apprentice

Dawn had been fifteen when she'd challenged the Sinnoh League, and she'd gotten farther than she'd expected: Aaron fell easily, Bertha and Flint were no match thanks to the type advantage from her Empoleon, and Lucian fell short by two Pokemon. She'd made it up to the Champion, Cynthia, on her first try. It was a tenuous battle, and Dawn did better than she'd thought she would. Ultimately, she lost, but Cynthia was so impressed with her skills that she offered to take her in as an apprentice, in hopes that she might replace her as Champion someday.
That had been three years ago. Dawn had grown significantly as a trainer since then, but Cynthia had also grown stronger. She still didn't have the raw power of Cynthia's Pokemon, though she was crafty enough to figure out strategies to circumvent that, which made their battles more even. However, there had been a more interesting development in their relationship over time: they'd fallen in love and were living together as a couple.

25-year-old Cynthia rose early on the first day off she'd been given in weeks. She set about the task of feeding, grooming and petting the countless Pokemon that shared Dawn's and her home. There were two sides to Cynthia as a trainer - the competitive side and the nurturing, intuitive Pokemon-breeder-like side. Those two parts of her had combined to make her the long-time Champion of Sinnoh; she couldn't have succeeded with only one or the other. Each and every single Pokemon had a name to her - if not a name that could be put into words, then a name that had made a mark upon her heart.

Dawn was in bed for another hour after Cynthia got up. She could sleep half the day if she went undisturbed, but that was never the case in a house full of Pokemon. Her Shinx climbed into the bed with her, lighting his tail and dangling it in her face. He'd found it was an effective method of making her rise quickly. Dawn tried to ignore it for a few minutes, but failed. Groaning, she finally rose. Taking Shinx into her arms, she went downstairs where Cynthia was grooming her Pokemon.

Cynthia rose, cuddling Pachirisu. She leaned in and kissed the top of Dawn's huge blueberry head.
"Sweetie, did you sleep well?"

"I slept all right once Tyrogue stopped kicking me in the back," she answered honestly. She didn't mind Pokemon cuddling up in the bed with them (which was why they'd invested in a king-sized bed) but there was no denying it sometimes made it difficult to sleep soundly. Especially when Ice Pokemon like Cubchoo decided to get under the covers with them and lowered the temperature significantly.

"I told Tyrogue he wasn't allowed to get in bed with us without a thick sleeping bag for him to rest in," Cynthia groaned. "TYROGUE!"
There was no response from the young fighting-type Pokemon.
"I'll fight with him later. For now, you get Blissey up, and all three of us will make breakfast."

Dawn went to get Blissey, who practically floated into the kitchen. Once all three of them were present, she got the ingredients out of the refrigerator. She was sure to keep the eggs away from Blissey, who refused to cook them, typically opting to wash and slice berries instead.

After breakfast, Cynthia gathered Dawn up for a cuddle. She kissed the top of her head again and again.
"Angel, Im sorry I've been away so much. I'm glad to have a free day. I've missed you, and I've been worried about you. Have you been a good girl while I've been busy?"

"Cynthia," Dawn groaned. "What do you mean 'have I been a good girl?' I'm an adult. What could I have possibly gotten into?"

Cynthia's eyes laughed. "I can never tell with you. But as long as you've been trying to be safe and healthy, I can't be upset at you."
