Elaine managed to beat Cynthia to her sisters car. Cynthia pulled Cora into an embrace. She and Elaine fought physically over Cora all while they got inside. Rosa and Moon, wide-eyed, brought up the rear.

Rosa and Moon said nothing, but, unmoving, regarded this blue-haired, blue-eyed young woman with round eyes. A moment later, Elaine set upon everybody. She charged Moon, bowling her into the snow, slapped and bit her for good measure, then, breaking loose, tackled Cora's leg, hugging and kissing it.
Lucas appeared on scene. Sweeping his cousin up, he spun her, laughing. They were the same age and had almost the same birthday, and they'd always been like siblings.
