Pokemon: Verity's Tale (for Virastentacular)
Verity, a girl from Twinleaf Town, had been riding in circles on her bicycle all day long. The day before, her mother, Dawn, had given her the most exciting gift she'd ever received: An egg from her prized Empoleon. Verity was overjoyed that her parents thought she was finally mature enough to care for a Pokemon of her own, and she was determined to hatch the egg as quickly as possible to meet her new partner, Piplup. So she continued to ride up and down the dirt roads of the small, rural town, hoping her efforts would introduce her to Piplup faster. Her parents watched her from the doorframe of their home, smiling at her determination.

"Look at her pedal." Dawn said, approving. "It reminds me of me, when I used to hatch eggs back in the day."
"And with my Garchomp as father of the egg, who knows what crazy egg moves her Piplup will have!" Cynthia added with a naughty wink.

Hours passed and the sun was setting. Verity still continued to ride up and down, back and forth, in hopes of finally hearing that initial crack in the egg. When the darkness finally fell, her mother called her inside, and she dismounted her bicycle, disappointed that today hadn't been the day Piplup hatched. As she was coming inside, however, she felt the egg start to move. Excitedly, she placed it on the ground in a soft pile of towels she had arranged for the occasion. The shell cracked open slowly, and the young Pokemon emerged, blinking and glancing around confusedly as it eyed its new home for the first time.

As Verity observed the birth of her new Pokemon, her parents walked in and shared the experience with her. Cynthia took a closer look at the little bird, and then said: "It's a boy, Verity."
Dawn put a hand on her daughter's shoulder and asked her: "Will you give him a name?"

Verity considered it for a moment, unable to contain the enormous grin. She had made a mental list of names she could give to a male or female Piplup and she decided to go with one of her favorites. "I'll name him Cobalt!" she exclaimed happily. She finally had her very own Pokemon. In a few years, she could travel the world, taking on challengers and seeing the sights with Piplup at her side. Maybe she'd even become a Champion like her mothers. Anything seemed possible right now, and she was eager to dive head-first into the Pokemon world.

"Cobalt; that's a very nice name!" Cynthia remarked.
Dawn added; "Maybe he should meet his parents."
And with that, their Empoleon and Gachomp were summoned, and they were quickly endeared by their new bouncing baby Piplup.

Verity turned and hugged her parents as well. They hugged back, and for a moment, she felt happier than she could recall feeling in a long while. “Mother, tomorrow will you show me how to battle?” she asked Cynthia, whose expression fell at the request. This had been the Champion’s first day off in weeks, and would likely be her only one for another few. She cast a sideways glance at her wife, who had an unreadable expression on her face.

Dawn gave a little sigh and said: "Alright, Verity, I'll teach you how to battle, but I won't have that much time. I have a lot of work to do."
Cynthia nodded in approval, though she feared that her daughter would ask her to do it; she wanted that day to relax!

“Oh... okay.” Verity said a little sadly. She had really wanted Cynthia to do it, as she never really got to spend time with her mother anymore. Still, her other mom was a Champion too, so she supposed she’d still be getting quality advice, but it hadn’t been what she was looking for. Not that this feeling of disappointment was new...
(I’ll take Cynthia for this next part?)
Verity went to bed soon after, leaving Dawn and Cynthia downstairs. Dawn was clearly a little annoyed with her wife, but Cynthia didn’t notice.

(Sure)
Dawn eventually asked her: "Cynthia, darling, couldn't you help Dawn learn how to battle, at least for a while? She really misses you, you know, and I still have so much housework left to do." She hoped Cynthia wouldn't cop out on her.
