Poll: Where do you get your spanking implements?

Indulge me, I'm curious. I posted a thread a year or two back (wow has it been that long?) when our hairbrush broke and I decided to get a paddle. It was an odd thing because there wasn't any real place people seemed to go get their spanking tools at. I got the impression that people did...well any of the options in the poll above. So while I got some great tips on what to look for in a new paddle I had to do all the leg work myself. I'm not complaining I love my paddles and the replys people gave me were great. I'm just wondering what some of you people did when you were in the same boat.

I must admint to never having found anything useful in adult stores in the UK. I've trawled London's Soho and found 'em a bit chintzy for my liking. Riding crops with a plastic hearts instead of a thong on the end, PVC floggers and leather paddles with star shapes cut out. Its crap quite frankly, playboy stuff.
Its all stag and hen-night stuff (those are rowdy bachelor and bachelorette parties to those who don't know) really. The stores arn't bad, they usually have great stuff for other scenes but lack functional pure discipline stuff.

So, I buy from the internet and from standard stores. I got some nice hair and bathbrushes from the highstreet. Straight canes from a furniture repair shop and did the brine treatments myself. Straps and the like I bought from an online specialist supplier.

I've never gotten a good experiance from eBay for adult goods, been ripped off with items 'not as described' both times so I don't recomend that. I get the impression a lot of dodgy arseholes see the adult market on eBay as a good victim to try it on with.

I've bought a lot of implements at Walmart. They have a plastic bath brush that stings like the dickens. As well as hairbrushes, ping pong paddles, and so on. Bed Bath And Beyond sells nice hardwood spoons and spatulas.

As for paddles, I've made a few. It's pretty easy. I have no woodworking skills, but they all turned out fine. Hardwood boards from Home Depot or Lowes, a jigsaw with a good blade, a few different grits of sandpaper, and a couple of hours... bam, beautiful paddle. Much cheaper than buying them pre-made, and fun too. Although if you don't happen to have a jig saw or a band saw lying around you're kind of SOL, I guess...

Yeah, it seemed like that to me too. So many paddles that look flimsy or seem too decorative to be of any practical use. Or like you said they're more for show than for a prolonged or harder spanking. I have a special hatred for the paddles that have fur on either side. I mean maybe I can see the fur side used to tease like by rubbing or something but they always look really cheap and I can't help but think the fur would come right off if you used it to deliver more than love taps.

I've had the best luck with buying from people who make them and sell them online. Not especially flashy but sturdy and effective. And some people can get some of the exotic woods in. I got a paddle made out of purple heart and it's a beautiful wood (but pretty dense and thuddy so be warned).

Good hairbrushes are good spanking implements by definition, and for everything else, there's hands.

So normal shops for me.

I recently bought a riding crop at an anime convention for five dollars. Nothing like purchasing adult toys in front of hundreds of strangers. (It's a nice one too, braided leather)

The bath brush I think I stole from someone. Or maybe someone gave it to me. I can't remember, it's been so long.
