In the back seat, Hector sniffled, like any little boy who has been told that he is going to be given a spanking when he gets home and swung his feet.

His little mind was thinking about how he could get out of being punished, but the hard little knob in his throat was still there.

"I don't think you should gimme a (sniff! sniff!) spanking, Cassia. You know how come? 'Cause it wasn't my fault! It was YOUR fault!" the little boy said angrily. (sniff! sniff!) 'Cause you shoulda let me pick out Sara's hairbrush. 'Stead you bought her a DUMB one!"

Hector wiped his eyes. Somewhere inside, he knew he was still being naughty, but he just couldn't stop. He looked at his Big Sister (who he loved sooo much, like he loved all the members of his family) and right now he was angry, angry, angry.

Hector put his head down and said darkly, "If ANYONE gives me a spanking, I'm gonna run away and never, never, never come back and then you'll all feel sorry!"

Hector lifted his head in surprise. Tears filled his eyes, that he hastily wiped away.

The little boy sniffed. "Momma...won't you miss me?" he asked.

He sniffled again and thought about running away and not seeing his Mommy and Daddy and his Big sisters Cassia and Andy. He loved them all so much.

"Daddy, what will you do without your little boy?" he asked.

"I sure would," said Mel. But you said you wanted to run away, and I want you to be happy."
Daniel caught on to Mel's plan. "I'd be very sad," he answered. "I love my big guy. But if you don't want to live with us anymore I'm not going to make you. Of course, if you WANT to stay, you are more than welcome to."

Hector wasn't sure how he felt about his Mommy's and Daddy's answer. Secretly, he wanted them to say that he COULDN'T run away...that they WOULDN'T let him, but the little boy didn't realize that if they HAD said that, he would only feel more rebellious.

Then another idea popped into Hector's busy little mind and he said, "Daddy. I don't wanna run away. Okay? 'Cause I love you and Momma and Cassie and Andy." There was a pause while Hector let that sink in and then, the crafty little toddler said, "But since I'm your BIG guy, does that mean I don't gotta have any more spankin's?"

Hector's little chest puffed out as he thought that he had said something very smart which would get him out of being spanked....maybe permanently.

Daniel chuckeled. "Afraid it doesn't work that way, Buddy," he said. "after all, Cassia and Andy are big girls and they still get spanked." He pulled into the parking lot of the drugstore and Mel ran in to get Andy's perscription. "But we all love you too, and we're very glad you'll be staying with us. Right Cassia?"

Although he was disappointed that his Father hadn't said that he WAS too big for spankings, the little boy hadn't really expected to win THAT battle, and he was very glad to know that his family loved him, because he loved them with all of his little body.

Hector looked at his Big Sister to see what Cassia would say. Hector, in his innermost heart, knew that he hadn't been a very good boy, but he wasn't ready to admit it yet.

"Yes, very glad. I think, daddy might just die from all us girls in the house if you went away. How he functioned before you got here, I've no idea. The XYs are pretty much overrun with the double Xs." She said with a grin to her father. She knew hector wouldn't get the second part but she was hoping he would the first bit.

He did! Hector beamed in his baby car seat and said, "Is it true, Daddy? Would you 'die' if I hadn't been born?"

Then Hector turned to Cassia and said, "I'm sorry I was a bad boy, Cassia? Do I still gotta get a spankin'?" He couldn't help sniffling a little as he asked this all important question.
