The streets were always cold and cruel during the winter season. A young blonde boy about eight years old, looked at his surroundings. He was already knee deeo in snow, and his stomach was rumbling like thunder. He needed to find food soon, but where to go? The young boy's name was Gambit, and he had been living on the streets for three years now, his parents were dead and he had no other family. "Time to scam." he smirked, taking out a deck of cards and shuffling them expertly in his hands. Maybe he could hustle someone for money, he spotted a burly looking man, who needed to seriously shave his sideburns. Gambit grinned and wandered over, standing before the man who was known as Logan Howlett. "Feeling lucky sir? How about trying your luck?" he laid out three cards face down on a stall and gestured to them. "Go ahead, ten bucks to find the red Queen." he said, eyes a glint. None of the cards had the red queen, but this man didn't need to know he was about to get his ass scammed by an eight year old kid.

The taut crease of Logan's lips parted only to breath a thick puff of smoke from the side of almost obliterated cigar tip "What?" he snorted, plucking the useless stub from his mouth with a sceptical brow raised "Your Saturday mornin' cartoons not doin' it for ya, bub?"

Logan had lived a pretty good life, longer infact, than sometimes he would care to admit; so it became almost a law of nature that he recognise a con-artist when he see, or in this kid's case, smell one. Even after all these years he still wasn't impressed.

The kid would have liked to mention he hadn't watched TV in like three years or something similar but he just clucked his tongue, clearly this man wasn't about to be fooled easily, so he would just have to steal from him. But first...a distraction. He threw his cards in the air and blew them up, causing a decent distraction before expertly pick pocketing the Wolverine and grinning when he got a twenty out from his back pocket. He could get meals for a week! The blonde child then scampered off, slowly though because of the deep snow.

Out of all the things that could have happened, ironically a volatile mutant power was not high up on Logan's list. It wasn't so much the sight of the explosion that caught him off guard but how his sensitive ears picked up on such a sound; so as the kid reached into his pocket he was effectively stunned, even once it had passed seeing as it took a minute for the ringing in his ears to finally dim.

Instinctvely, he did a quick once over and, ofcourse, the twenty was missing.
The veteran snarled "Big mistake bub," he growled, wasting no time in picking up the boy's strong scent amongst the odourless snow and taking off in his direction.

The young blonde boy continued to trudge through the snow, the flakes fell down from the sky and the young boy sneezed. No! He couldn't get sick again! He glanced around, hearing his stomach rumble. Gambit then headed off in search of somewhere he could buy food. "Gotta get food..." he mumbled, coughing and then heading toward a local run down diner. "There!" he gasped and headed off in that direction.

The kid may not have been much to look at, Logan realised, but that power of his was definitely nothing to sneer at. If he wanted, the boy could probably pull that out as a surprise punch and floor him again so he didn't come charging at him guns-a-blazing; instead, he tailed him. Tracking the scent, the footsteps and, suddenly the...sneeze.
A groan threatened to catch under his breath; suddenly he was all too aware that, power or not, this was a half-pint in every sense of the word. But even though the immediate anger left his system, his stance concerning his twenty dollars certainly didn't; so he let the kid slip into the warmth of the diner to atleast get out of the cold for a few seconds before heading discreetly around the back entrance.

Of course, Gambit knew nothing about Logan sneaking up behind him, or going round the back entrance to the diner. The kid entered the deserted place and ordered himself a burger, paying for it with the stolen twenty before sitting down and tucking in. There was literally no one about aside from one waitress who was mainly back in the kitchen. It was a little eerie and Gambit swore he heard something move about behind him.

"Enjoying that?" Logan sounded suddenly from behind the kid's small frame, a strong hand coming to rest very firmly atop his shoulder as he said so. It wasn't exactly a friendly gesture, more of an indication for him to stay exactly where he was sitting "Hope you didn't let her keep the change."

Feeling a hand clamp down on his shoulder was enough to make the eight year old jump and he looked up slowly to see the face of the man who he had taken the money from. Gambit gulped and bit his lip. "Uh...I...no I didn't let her keep the change." he informed and then sipped on the soda, his throat had gone a little dry. "Something I can help you with?" he asked, deciding to play innocent.

"Actually yes," Logan quipped as the empty seat next to Gambit scraped noisily out from under the table, which he promptly set himself into "The meal you can keep," the mutant gruffly stated, thrusting an empty palm meaningfully out infront of the boy "Just fork over the rest of it."
