Leap year doesn't solve the riddle because then he would have to be 12 years old

12 + 37 = 49, true, but there is no day which would ONLY occur in a non-leap year.

A possible, but a bit offbeat solution would use the date-line for careful skipping of every fourth birthday.

Another possibility - 37 might be 49, expressed in base 14

3*14 + 7 = 49, and if he was born at the end of December he could still be 49 years old.

I am going to say that in 1970, the man had a religious awakening and was 'Born-again', thus making him only 37 years old in 2007.

The boring, possible, plausable - but not all that likely to be correct - answer is that he was in a spaceship going at something approaching the speed of light. Time passed slower for him than for us on Earth, he returns and everyone else is a lot older.

I suppose also he could have been born at 19:57, which is three minutes to eight, thirty-seven years later it's 20:07 and thats his age.

Or he could have been born in 1,957 Southshield Blvd. A large hospital. I made that up, but the idea stands up.

But I'll go with space-ship at high speeds. They may not have had them back then, but assuming it's sci-fi it's a lot better than happened to Cpt. William 'Buck' Rogers. Then again, Wilma was hot... >___>;;

I finally got the answer for this riddle and I can tell you all, Maru-sha came up with one hell of a good one. I told the riddle to my parents and even they didn't get. Don't ask me what the answer is though. All I can say is Maru-sha is one tricky sneaky vixen and that people need to remember the most basic rule about riddles. The answer is right in front of you.
