Sam tensed a small bit at the casually added on wording but remained aloof and said "thats crazy man im so sorry" he said the man had no trouble lying if it would get him away from any possible trouble. He watched the show and tried to look casual and not guilty.

Noticing that he had tensed up a bit, he knew he might be able to break the truth out of him as he leaned back and relaxed. “Did anyone else come over today, by the way? Or did I just forget to close my door?” He suddenly asked. “My room was open and I could’ve sworn I locked it.” He casually asked, not sound like he was accusing his roommate but definitely worded it in a way to make Sam slip if possible

Sam swallowed not even sure why he was entertaining this topic his self preservation thrown out the window apparently as he sat up a little straighter not liking this line of questioning. He had snooped around Scotts room out of boredom and wasnt sure if he had left the door open or not but decided to play it off like he did "no no i think you left it open" he said with confidence but apparently did not remember he had closed it again on the way out of his room. Eating his food and snooping his room not great things for the roommates already but Sam needed this roommate or he was screwed if he landed with a slacker like himself he was guna be homeless or living with his parents again and he would not do that again.

Noticing the man jolt to sit up straight, he knew he had him caught, but he remained stoic and calm about it as he clearly didn’t seem angry. The furthest he might get was annoyed as he leaned back. “I had thought that was a possibility, but then I remembered I came back and checked before leaving proper. I did, but I know I distinctly came back to close it. Unless it just didn’t latch.” He thought, that last part a trap to see if he could keep lying or if Sam would put himself in such a situation

He listened to the younger man and said "oh yeah that door has a latch problem and sometimes doesn't close properly" by trying to get out of trouble he was dragging himself into more trouble and if he recalled hed remembered he shut the door properly and he was tangling himself into a web of lies especially since none of the doors ever had issues but the man would lie til he died to save himself or in some cases bury himself further as ghe faltered a bit his voice not as strong hoping he left everything properly.

Sam was tempted to show him but short of breaking the door on purpose and paying his landlord for the harshly slammed door he was fucked. He was effectively stopped he would do a lot of things to get out of trouble but purposely break property was not one.
