"Now, if you plan on challenging gyms, I would suggest to start with the one Orebrugh City. There is a particularly tough gym leader there that specializes in Rock-type Pokemon. He will help you see where you stack up against the trainers in Sinnoh," said Rowan.

"And I have to get to Jubilife City in time for the contest," added Dawn.

Rowan stared at her. "Ah, yes, I remember your mother was a coordinator. I'm sure she'll be very proud when she sees you on stage."

"Ok" said Ash, smiling, "Let's get going."

Pikachu nodded, and climbed up on his shoulder.

Together, Sylvia, Dawn, Piplup, Ash, and Pikachu all set out to pursue their dreams and goals.

After about a day of travel, they entered a forest. And a few days later...they were still in the forest...totally lost! Ash was frowning, as he looked over a map.

(Are we not doing Rebellious Trainer after all?)

Sylvia sweat-dropped. "Are you sure you don't want me to take a look at the map, Ash?" After hearing of his extensive travels, she had assumed he had a knack for travel. He was quickly proving her wrong. Maybe she should be the one holding the map...

"Please let her take over," agreed Dawn. "At this rate, I'll miss the Jubilife City contest!" feared Dawn. It was supposed to be her debut, but at the pace they were going she wouldn't make it in time!


(We are. I'm a slow starter in some cases. Still thinking about my OC.)

"Sure, go ahead" said Ash, handing Sylvia the map, "But you don't need to worry Dawn. I have Starly, looking for a way out of the forest. I know he won't let us down."

"Thank you," said Sylvia. She mentally retraced her steps, and found, to her delight, that they weren't as lost as she had feared. She was about to voice this when Dawn gave a scathing reply to Ash.

"Are you kidding me; my coordinator career is resting on the back of your Starly? Does your Starly even know what we're looking for?" asked Dawn, insinuating that Ash's pokemon might not be so smart.

Sylvia flinched. "Eh, that's pretty harsh, Dawn. Besides, it looks like-"

"It's not harsh!" retorted Dawn. "I trusted senior explorer Ash, but he doesn't know how to navigate a frickin forest. I guess pokemon DO take after their trainers, like I've heard."

Ash glared at Dawn.

"Hey!" he cried, sternly, "I'll overlook a few insults directed at me, but don't you dare insult Starly, or any of my other pokémon!"

Dawn just stuck her tongue out.

'Ah, to be ten, again', thought Sylvia, a bit exasperated. 'I hope she won't be like this the entire journey.'

"Anyway, what I was going to say is weren't not as lost as we thought. We're pretty close to the trail, actually, and so Starly shouldn't have much trouble finding it," said Sylvia.
