The winters of war had cleared away from the skies of Konoha. This was the second springtime since the war's end, and hundreds of young people had found love.
As sunlight, mingled with cherry blossoms, drifted in through the open kitchen window of her house, Temari Sabaku Nara rose that morning to kiss her husband, Shikamaru, awake. Though they bickered not infrequently, deep down, Temari adored and respected Shikamaru and showed her tender side to noone but him.
"Get up, Shikamaru," she whispered. "Breakfast is ready."

The nineteen-year-old Shikamaru Nara remained in his side of the bed not even responding to the words of his wife. After the war ended he thought long and hard of what he wanted to do and he then decided to become A aide to the Hokage. Such as task can be tiring to him and given his usually lazy nature all he wanted to do right now was just sleep for as long as he could.

Temari's shoulders sagged. It was true that Shikamaru was the Hokages right-hand man, but did that really necessitate that he should sleep for hours after sunrise on his days off? She always tried to be sure that he got to bed at a decent hour on days when he did have to work.
Well. ...it was rare that he got a day off, anyway, so she decided to leave him alone. He certainly hoped he enjoyed his cold breakfast.

It would be nearly two hours before Shikamaru finally awaken. He noticed that his wife wasn't in their bedroom and figure she was probably in the kitchen or living room. After finally working enough effort Shikamaru climbed out of bed and made his way to the bathroom washing up and changing into his usual clothes. Finally, he made it to the kitchen where he noticed the plate left on the table along with his wife. "Good morning, Temari." He greets.

Shikamaru probably would've guessed that Temari would likely be sour from him ignoring her wake up call and leaving her in the kitchen by herself. He nervously laughed trying to shake off the obvious lukewarm greeting from his wife. "Heh, sorry about that, Temari. I had a bit of A busy day yesterday making preparations for the upcoming chunnin exams." Shikamaru explained to his wife as he sits down next to her at the kitchen table and takes A sip of his tea and his eyes shot open realizing the temperature of the tea. "Ugh I guess this was made quite a while ago." He adds realizing that Temari probably purposely let his food get cold.

Taking a bit of the cold breakfast Shikamaru shuddered. Since it was either eating the cold breakfast or going hungry. Hearing the question from his wife he answers. "Well just like yesterday I have to overlook everything for the upcoming Chunnin Exams." Shikamaru explained to his wife while also trying to get through the cold breakfast. "What about you?" He asked her wondering what she would be doing while he's away.
